My hunting bud and I took a ride to Woodhull NY Fri. we have two farms we can hunt there that only we can go on. Drove six hours to get there check out the 1st farm that we had already hunted last year and the sign was just the same so we ran over to the new farm and found it to be even better than the first. We got permision to hunt the first farm last year and did well. This year the son of the farmer bought a place down the road and asked if we would like to try his place out. So we got there Fri. walked both places and decided to hunt the fathers farm first thing Sat. for the opening day as we had some good spots there from last year. We got to the farm at 6:00 Joe walked down the hill to an apple tree he hunted last year and I took my climber to the top of the hill to a oak I hunted last year. I had tacked out a path to the oak last year and found the tree in no time and was up the tree and ready by sun up. I had acorns dropping all around me as the sun came up even getting hit in the head a few times. After a half hour a nice doe came by at 70 yards followed by a nice six point buck but they had other things in mind then to eat acorns and headed down hill and out of sight. We had planned to stay in the woods till 10 then get lunch and hit the sons farm in the afternoon. Just before 10 I had two small does head up hill twards me and as they got closer they must have heard the acorns falling like rain and started to almost run to my spot. The first doe dropped at 10' from the base of my tree the other dropped at 35 yrds. Joe came up and gave me a hand cleaning the deer and we headed off to the sons farm to be in the woods by 2:00. We had found some runs in the oaks on his farm that looked like cow paths so we set Joe up there and I took my stand to the end of a pasture to sit and glass the feilds for deer as my hunt was over. By 3:00 Joe had arrowed a nice 6 point and I had two does walking under my tree for 20 minutes. Joe came to get me as it had started to "SNOW" and he wanted to get on the way home before it got to bad as we had seen the news about Buffalo the day before. Back in the truck and home at a little after 10 lastnight. Did not have time to get the pics out of the camera yet but will post one here later.

Look at the deer on the left near me. The tops of her ears were both (cut)off. I have heard of deer out west getting frost bite on thier ears but did not think it got cold enought in these parts for this to happen. I was talking to the farmer about it and he said is was most likely do to bigger deer biting the tips off as hes sees this in his goats all the time. What do you guys think?????????

IMO I don't think its frost bite, if it where we would have read it or seen more of this type of thing over the years. There alot colder area's that deer make their homes far north and still never heard such a thing. You got the best look...what do you think? Bad gene's maybe??
