I don't know who needs to go in for service, my wife or her car. Anyone ever hear of this happening? My wife has a 2004 Pathfinder. The other day she was leaving work and hit her remote to unlock the doors and she said when she pressed the button the windows went down. Yesterday she was leaving the supermarket and she said she put the car in drive and it went in reverse. She tried putting it in park and then drive and it went in reverse. Finally, she turned it off, sat for a minute and tried again and drive took the car forward. Is the onboard computer tied to the transmission so Drive could actually make the car go in reverse if the computer was messed up?

I'd bet on the Pathfinder.. a guy who used to work with me, had a 92 or a 93.. tons of trouble with it (some electrical, and some mechanical glitches... he got rid of it for a new 4runner, and has been somewhat happier with that.

I dunno John.. I had a 76 F150 that was bought at auction from the National Seashore in 1980.. so ya know it was rode hard and put away wet.. but.. that truck.. cold start.. ya'd put it in drive.. and it would rock back, like it was gonna take off in reverse then it would go *slam*

I would believe the wife but see if it happens again.
If the Pathfinder has two has two locations that show the transmission gear (i.e display console and shift handle console) then check to see if they agree with each other. The shift handle should be tied directly to the transmission via cables, etc which is more accurate and the "front display" is electronics and less accurate if there is a electrical problem. The window problem and the front display more electrical/electronic leading to believe that it is an electrical issue.

Dealer said "weird" but bring it in. Actually, I found out my wife was observing the driver on the reverse/drive situation. My daughter was in the driver's seat. I think they both observed it was in drive by the shift indicator, not sure about the front display. After she went from park to drive twice and it went backwards my daughter said it was too freaky, turned the car off and switched to the passenger seat. When my wife started the car again it worked fine. She had a 1994 Pathfinder before this one and it was a tough reliable vehicle, but I think they lowered their standards of late, this one is tinny sounding when you close the trunk or doors, I never liked it but you can't argue with the Mrs. when she makes her mind up.

I once bought a Pathfinder, the only car I ever paid off.
Had to relinquish it to the ex-wife in the settlement.
Now I see that freaking thing driving by my house, three times a week, with my ex beeping and pulling Uweis to come by to talk to me.
That freaking car is "Christine," tried to kill it by driving on the beach, but it keeps coming back.
Last time I talked to her, it had 175 K and was running like a champ.
Had to change out the cd player 6 times when it was new.
Weird electrical problems like the cd, then the sunroof opened up during the night of the Pats-Raiders snow bowl in 2001...had to put a broccoli case over the open sunroof to get home to watch the game.
Car runs great for her, though.
Save your wife, burn the car.
