I wanted to let the S-B board know that there will be a great seminar coming up on November 8.
This free seminar is part of a much broader program to teach kids fishing.
Eventually this program will include additional monthly seminars and field trips tailored for lots of family oriented fishing fun.
Here are the details:
Adult and child duos are invited to attend an organizational and demonstration meeting the evening of November 8 at 7PM at the Riverside Sportsman’s Club, located on Mohawk Drive, off of the Wampanoag Trail Northbound in East Providence. The East Bay Anglers fishing club will sponsor an hour and a half seminar by Jim White, operator of White Ghost Charter Service and Kimberly Sullivan of RIDEM. Assisting them will be five-year-old Devon White, Jim’s grandson.
Call 401-245-8375 to reserve space.
The East Bay Anglers fishing club and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) Div. Fish & Wildlife will work together in the coming year on programs to teach fishing to children, according to a joint announcement by East Bay Angler President John Barone and DEM Aquatic Resource Education Coordinator Kimberly Sullivan.
The two organizations are laying out a month-to-month schedule of instructional sessions and demonstration field trips to introduce the wide range of fishing opportunities available to young people in Southern New England -- ranging from small snapper blues in local harbors, to freshwater species ranging from trout to pan fish. Program content will eventually cover species, tackle, places, techniques, safety, and conservation principles.
If you have kids or grandchildren that you would like to get excited about fishing, this is a great way to start.
Five-year old Devon is a real hoot and a darn good fisherman; he’s a riot to watch, both when it comes to catching fish and when he’s delivering a presentation to a group of anglers -- something he’s been doing since he was three and a half-years old! Check out the attached picutres.
Captain Jim White will offer some valuable tips on the right way to get children involved in the sport that we love so much.
The East Bay Anglers fishing club is also offering lots of incentives to get new members to join this well respected organization. They are especially interested in individuals that would like to help orchestrate activities that are of interest to the 21st century angler...activities that range from fishing for holdover stripers in an urban setting to kayak fishing tournaments, shore fishing safaris and boat-based outings. This is a great chance to get involved with a terrific group of individuals that have made significant contributions to our sport over the last 35 years.
Whether you’re a solo angler with lots of experience, or you’re a Dad or Mom that would like to know how to get started in fishing, the EBA club and seminars are a great place to start.
If you know anyone that might benefit from this program, please pass on this info.
