Chet, I have a question for you concerning cuttyhunk.

you said "On the South West Bluff, or Point as the current starts to run to the South gives up Large. "

So at what stage of tide does the current start to run south? outgoing?

thanks

Base your calculations on High Tide at Newport.
High tide Newport runs South by the West end of the Island.
Canapitsit runs South into the Sound almost an Hour before the South running at the West end.

Chart looks like around 0031 for the 16th.

The current runs South at the West End and thence turns the corner at the SW Bluff and goes Easterly in the Sound.

When are you going over?

I'm going over Sat. morning.

so is that outgoing or incoming tide? I'm confused.
I understand high tide Newport is the same but .........

Maybe I did not make it clear.
HIGH TIDE AT NEWPORT IS SAME FOR THE ROCK.
Falling tide drives the current South at the West End. The Current turns the corner under the South West Bluff and runs EAST in the Vineyard Sound.

The incoming or rising tide might drive some bait against that South West corner so maybe being there before high tide might be worth while.

Just some "local color". Those big Cement Pyrimids on the beach were over 100 feet back from the cliff when I was in my early teens and the fake water tower was standing. It was a radar outpost of something. Fifty years have put a lot of sand and mud into the ocean.
