View Full Version : Red Sox
Raider Ronnie 11-15-2006, 06:45 AM Red Sox win the right to offer a contract to Matsuzaka !!!
It only cost them 51 mill !!!:laughs:
This is just for thew right to offer him a contract !!!
THIS IS F***ING INSANE !!!
Just another reason baseball (and all sports) sucks !!!
For those of you who are fools and pay the ticket prices they charge,
make sure you put some more $$$ aside to go !!!
The Dad Fisherman 11-15-2006, 08:03 AM To think they could have got away with paying only $40 Million.
next highest bid was $39 Million by the Mets
afterhours 11-15-2006, 08:25 AM they'll recover most of that jack from deals and marketing in japan. saw some clips of this guy-WOW, may have the best stuff i've seen- period.
BigFish 11-15-2006, 08:26 AM I bet he comes here and sucks!!!! :rtfm:
afterhours 11-15-2006, 08:28 AM you're on.. couple of plugs? we must define "sucks" - less than 12 wins?
The Dad Fisherman 11-15-2006, 08:38 AM I wouldn't go on wins I'd go on ERA as to whether he sucks or not.
wins can be dictated by whether your team is scoring runs for you or not.
I'd look at his career ERA and add 1 run to it...if he can do that here then he did OK for his 1st year....just a thought
afterhours 11-15-2006, 08:43 AM don't think career #s come into play, was'nt against mlb. as far as era, got ot be over 5 to be considered suckage imo.
The Dad Fisherman 11-15-2006, 09:05 AM Then set an ERA of 5 as the suckage level, I just don't consider wins a good indicator of suckage....in a starting pitcher
Now Losses in a Bullpen guy....thats a good indicator of suckage
MarshCappa 11-15-2006, 10:04 AM I bet he comes here and sucks!!!! :rtfm:
LOL:rotf2: I was thinking the exact same thing! Big risk for a foriegn player that has never been in anybody's system in the big leagues. We went down this road with a couple of foriegn pitchers and they stunk it up. Remember Byun Yung Kim? The culture barrior is a HUGE hurdle for these guys to get over and the schedule is way tougher on these guys than in Japan with the long road trips and all the travel. That's a ton of dough for an untested rookie. If this move doesn't pan out I see the end of Theo in Boston. Gotta love the hot stove stuff. Only in Boston!
Skip N 11-15-2006, 10:28 AM Between the buy out of his contract from his Japaneese team, and the contract they still need to sign him too, this guy with NO mlb experience could cost the Sox close to 100 million bucks.
Theo better hope this guys an All Star for the next 8 years.
BigFish 11-15-2006, 11:35 AM If his ERA is over 3 Don he won't be worth the money we are spending......over 5 would be downright embarrassing! For the kind of money they are spending he better win 25 games out of the gate....otherwise, why not take all that money and buy a couple of free agent starters....you could get top of the line starters for that kind of money!!! Instead they are investing big bucks in an unproven talent who has never faced major league hitters!!!!:rollem:
fishsmith 11-15-2006, 04:58 PM What the hell it's not our money, and better us than the Yankees getting a shot at him.
This sounded good to me (and he has pitched against MLB players)-
Matsuzaka was then named MVP of the first World Baseball Classic after beating Cuba in the final. He went 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA in the tournament; Japan's other pitchers were a combined 2-3. He followed by going 17-5 with a 2.13 ERA, 200 strikeouts, 14 complete games and a .92 WHIP in '06. He even went 3 for 9 with a double and homer in interleague play.
Go Red Sox!!
afterhours 11-15-2006, 05:17 PM granted- he may suck and we'll all scream bad move boy blunder!with that said i've seen some vidieo of him and he has AMAZING stuff!
on "film" he looks like a young pedro....
ProfessorM 11-16-2006, 10:45 AM Doom and gloom. Hey life is a gamble. It is not my money. Worth the chance IMO. If you have a chance at a pitcher with his resume you throw the kitchen sink at him. Decent pitching is paramount to winning in MLB. They are not stupid they will make their money back as mentioned above. The guy has been pitching pro since he was 18. He will be fine, if we can sign him. P.
vineyardblues 11-19-2006, 12:17 PM I like it , only in Boston and New York , Good or bad it will make it all very interesting, Besides it did block other teams from getting the chance and if it does not work out it will cost the Redsox nothing, This may be their over all plan
I also read that if will do land him it will be a global event with our Redsox on TV over seas with the Sox getting a % of the $$$
Long term could bring a huge amount of money to Mr Henry
Plus the cost of water may hit 8.00 at Fenway ....lol
VB
Bigcat 11-19-2006, 12:44 PM Just goes to show you theo and the boys are clueless.
It has been bad move after bad move.
They would not sign Damon ,but are willing to pay much more for JD Drew, A guy that is hurt all the time and does not have the temperment to play in Boston, just like rentawreck:conf:
