View Full Version : new camera = fun.
likwid 11-19-2006, 10:30 AM So for my birthday I splurged and bought myself a new camera. (Canon Digital Rebel XTi)
Was at the Museum of Science yesterday for Bodyworlds and managed to shoot a couple pics of the Van De Graf generator. (For some fun trivia about it, it was actually built down at the Colonel Green estate in S. Dartmouth in a huge hangar that used to be there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_Hill,_Massachusetts)
2 second exposure, no tripod.

I would have liked to have had a wide angle lense and shoot both sides (and balls) at the same time. That would have come out really really neat.
Karl F 11-19-2006, 10:42 AM Fantastic pictures..
and I know, you know, how to have fun... with a camera ;)
scoobe 11-19-2006, 11:01 AM Wow you have one steady hand!
fishsmith 11-19-2006, 11:19 AM nice pics, you can almost hear the crackle.
The guy who does the demo is Greg.
My daughter works there and sometimes he brings her on as his
"lovely assistant"
Saw her go into the faraday cage and get zapped, did not even raise a hair on her head. Pretty cool stuff....
ChiefLinesider 11-19-2006, 01:56 PM look magazine quality

great colors... nice shot man.
and a belated happy birthday wish too.
MrHunters 11-20-2006, 09:45 AM i have its baby brother the s3 is... Couldnt be happier with it. The learning curve is a bit steep on these cameras if you want to do more than auto point and click. But there is some real cool stuff these digital cameras can do!
Have you tryed the stitch function yet? you can get some great landscape shots and the software does a nice job at syncing the photos together!
RIJIMMY 11-20-2006, 10:49 AM I have the same camera, I need to get beyond the point and shoot. Very cool pics

I actually have software for doing that. It tends to work a bit better and give a bit more leeway for editing/overlaying correctly.

Jimmy, the trick is to go out and shoot, bring the quick manual with you to kinda poke around and just shoot more.
I think my next hit will be a Sigma 50ish-300mm telephoto. Wish I could afford the EF-S/EF L but its around a grand+ just for that lense.
After that find a low F/stop 50mm prime.
