I am looking to match a VS250 with an 11 foot blank, I am looking to throw lures 1 to 4 ozs and I need it sturdy enough to stear a big fish around rocks. I need action to use Pencils What should I look for I don't want to pay to much but I want a nice rod built for me. I have no knowledge of blanks so your help is needed Thanks Bob

Rated 1-5 ... loves 3 ,,, 3.5 max . I feel Like I can break it with 4 .. Great rod.

If you can deal with 10',, Lami Triflex TS 10 MHS 2 pc. rated 3-8 12-30lb. factory rod . cheap... been using it 2yrs. leaving xra and others home.. stays in the car all the time .. throws 1 ounce ,,, throws 4 ounce .. Lands a decent fish (30# decent for me) quite easily . I want to get a blank and set up conventional also for when i get winky finger..

Lami GSB 132 1M? It's not as crisp as the XRA 1322, and IMO the Arra fights a fish better. But the GSB does handle 4 oz easily.

11' graphites that'll work a pencil and can handle 4 oz--those are the only two in the game right now.

How about S-glass? SSB 136 3M would be good. If Mike at M&Ds has any, that is.

Mike I have seen u say this many times.I can't disagree more.i have bothe the arra an the gsb in 11'.
I think the gsb is more crip an the arra is somewhat slower in action.U know quite a few of my friends have had the gsb built in the last yr An I have seen some variation in the way the blank reacts.I have seen em really stiff an some kinda whippy.place em side by side an there is really no difference in diameter.I think guide type an placement is a big factor especially when u get to a 11 ft. rod.My arra has 5 Titanium wire frames guides while on the gsb i have the new fancy fugi system set up with the 40 collector.i would bet the fugi's add much less weight to the end of the rod an give me a more crisp feel.I like both rods very much I can cast a bomber better with the gsb the arra is the ultimate pencil rod.I can't imagine have to us a 11' glass rod.I have one i have not touched it off the rack in the garage in 3 yrs..
Bob i would highly reccomend either one of the 2 feel around.u have all winter.Tough to say if i had to choose one.I would flip a coin..

ARRA 1205 only 10 ft but the best rod I ever made or used.

Tony--I think it's more the fact that it seems no two GSB blanks are alike. There much more uniformity from blank to blank in the XRAs.

One of the times you're down this way, I'll let you check out the two 120 1Ms I have. You won't believe they're built on the same blank. :hs:

There is a new line out from Lami, dont ask me specifics just know they are targeting braid. Felt like between an Arra & GSB.

Maybe cause I got an older one .. like 3 yrs. after they came out .. got the blank at Red Top ,,spring sale 180.00 when kids were little ,, saved another year.. got all sic guides,,got custom grip and turned my own grips on lathe ,, rolled rod it myself ,, Heard mine creak a couple of times ..

It has been the blank of choice for many years. Its extra length really comes in handy during big surf. It will not fill the bill as a light tackle schoolie rod. I only use it when I mean business.

No more need be said.I use a 706z. Someday when I get my back pension. I'm gonna get me one o them vs 300's..

Sometimes on the rocks a 11 fter can almost pull u off if ur drag is to tight an the rod tip is pointed down.but it is nice to have to get the line over an around alot of the other rocks in ur way.They are pretty much all i use these days..

Somewhere's around 4 oz. The cast starts to become more of a lob than a good power throw...It's not that the rod itself labors like its gonna break..it just kinda folds an does not recover so pressing it harder does nothing of good really.The same goes for my gsb also.They are equal in the top end the gsb is better in the lower end.At least mine is anyways.

I think everyone I've ever read who knows a heck of a lot more about it than myself says to stick with regular guides!

It's not light but will be a good fit for the 250. I've got mine on a 1321L that's circumsized 4" to a 12 tip so it's more like the M. To add even more weight I had a cork foregrip put above the reel seat so I can just grab the rod above the reel. Great rod but it's a workout at times...

I'll take modern tecnology performance over old school look . Wires to heavy ,,load it up with wire and kill the blank .

You don't want all wire guides. The only postive going that route is the look of the finished product.

I still use a single wire guide for my stripper though, I like the larger diameters available & the durability of a wire guide. The rest Fujis SIC's or Hardloys depending on the financial situation. American tackle has some nice guides as well. Could go with the SCUV. If you want that all metal look & still have a quality guide.

you do not want to mix wire and ceramics. if you plan on using just braid, use ceramics. fuji's are the best and i have yet to have any troubles with them other than rust on the frames of the less expensive ones. if you want the old school and just plan on throwing mono, you should be fine, but will have to deal with line slap. you can also use ceramics for mono, just start w/ a 50mm. if you use braid, you can start as small as a 25, 30 or 40 depending on the reel you plan on using. if you plan on doing both, do a 50.

i had the opportunityto test a blank in the new line from lamiglas. it was the ssu1081m, which was 9'. i built it for braid and it is a perfect fit for a vs150 or 200. the rod is at the saltwater edge shop as a demo being tested. i hope to have more models this winter. it is nice.
