Incredible, but the retrieve speed looks very fast and I doubt it will stay on top at a slower retrieve. Probably will be a dynamite boat plug, until Mr Bluefish comes by. What does it cost?

They have 3 models, floater, slow sink, and deep. I have been researching the swimbaits for a while now. Many are rubber, and the wood or plastic ones are usually in the $100 range. This one runs $40. Still a lot to donate to a bluefish though. Imagine the white one tossed near a school of adult bunker next season :devil2: ...

I've experimented with a lot of musky plugs built like that, they've all been somewhat disappointing. That spro offering looks different though.

I think this type of lure first became popular to cath lunker LMB in the huge freshwater impoundments in California... like lake Castiacs. It sure swims purdy... no lip too.

That thing is ridiculous. It does look like the tail is rubber, so maybe if a blue chops it, you just stick on a new tail?

Guys pay almost 40 for ye olde time wooden plugs just cause Joe Somebody made it, and none of those swim like that. Just my opinion of course.

That looks like a hard bait to me. If so they have one of the best swimming action I have seen in a hard bait. For trolling it looks awesome. If it is hard it will stand up much better to bluefish.

Most arge rubber or plastic baits have a "paddle tale" that drives the action. I have used lots of the rubber ones and they work great but they are disposable. I bought one of those big trouts for $15 from some west coast outfit and swam that off Nomans on wire line and it lasted a good min to min and 30 seconds before it was hit by a bass. Next pass a bluefish had its way with it and that was the end of Mr. trout. The action in this plug looks to be coming from the lip and not the tail...if it is a hard bait it could be a good plug.

Not sure if anyone remembers when the ProJo ran a story about a year or two back about custom plugs identical to these mentioning how they were made for the large,deep California resavoirs and impoundments. The plugs in the article went for between $150 -$300with some collectors paying as much as $1500.

Awesome lookin bait but a still a bit pricey. The LM bass crowd are nuts on what they pay for swimbaits.

Money is no object to some people.I have seen plug collections that would make ur head spin.An I have a few lures myself..i think some folks find as much happiness in collecting lures as they do catching bass..no sense trying to make sense of it.as long as ur happy doing whatever it is u do then go for it..They do reck big bass out west on them things..20 lb largemouths..an the one watched on tv had some sick action u could stop it an it slooowly sank.twitch it an it would dart to the side.had a killer lifelike swimming action like a herring...

Nice find, I like them. It's just a matter of time before before prices on that sort of stuff become realistic. The manufacturers that adapt quickly will get the bigger market share.
What companies are doing now with urethenes is mind boggling, they can transition the plastic to give you hard and structurally rigid in one part of the mold and taper it to soft and flexible in another. You just tell them what you want.
Bump this thread back in two years and if they're not less than twenty bucks, other manufacturers will probably have knock-offs of them. Keep your eye on the fresh water market.

The maker was in Field n Stream as well, for an interview. I think he's a born again. At first I guess the trout were made of wood then the demand grew and tada! 250$ a whack, gotta keep in mind that folks shelling out this kinda dough are after the world record LMB, so after dropping 30-40k on a powerboat, 3k each on reels etc etc the 250.oo is like chump change... if you think of the payday a new world record lmb would bring the price isnt sooo I dunno off??

I agree with whats said about the prices on these dropping, and we can see it in the spro baits, there are others as well.
