I have never fished cutty before but I fish MV often, how does the fishing compare? If given the option of a week on the the vineyard or a week on cutty, where would you rather fish?

Never been to the Vineyard.....too crowded there for me!! I think we touched on this when we met Josh?:laugha: I can't compare the two but Cutty rocks!!!:cool:

Cutty is too small of an island to be stuck there for a week if the fishing weather goes south on you in a hurry. MV has many opportunities and places.

During the Off Season MV is not really crowded at all. Usually you will not run into another angler at even the most popular spots during the night.

Yeah, don't forget BI. Cutty is perfect for a few days, Block for a week or two and I've never been to the Vineyard but that place is huge. I would think it would take a long time to figure the Vineyard out on your own and I agree about not liking crowds.

Also, is the vineyard as densely populated with deer as Cutty or BI? Have the fun of fish Block is dodging the deer at night and checking out the deer ass.

Deer are everywhere, especially "off the beaten path."
crowds aren't really an issue if you fish nights. very rarely do i see anyone other than who i am fishing with.

Cutty - easiest to go commando raid. Go for 2 nights, stay at the club, walk to everything

MV - so much diversity in fishing - it has it all - can be a LONGGGG vacation

Block, relatively quick access all around the island with foot/truck.

All three, very fishy. The bigger they get the more diversity they give forth. THe smaller the easier to work the Island.

All depends on what you are looking for. If i hit Powerball - I'd probably move to the Vineyard ;) - Smallest Island with a good school system.

Not mentioned is Nantucket but for a shore angler I don't think it offers anything close to the other 3 islands...

A week on Cutty would be pretty tough physically. Tough fishing is best enjoyed in small bites. Other than fishing there isn't much else to do. I'd think it might get repetitive fishing it 6 or 7 nights in a row.

MV offers the whole package, though figuring out the access issues is difficult to say the least. Most people who live on MV would never consider going off island to fish for bass. You've got every kind of bass water you'd want, estuaries, inlets, pond openings, surf, back bay, rocks, moving water, still water, sight fishing, boat fishing, etc,etc, etc. There is also plenty to do nonfishing if you want. It is probably your best option, though hiring a beach guide would be money well spent.

Don't sell Nantucket short, it has easier access than the Vineyard and more consistent summer flyrod fishing, though it lacks the deepwater rocky stuff the Vineyard can offer (and seals can be an issue).

If I had 3 choices and 3 weeks to fish I would go to Block Island all three weeks, but I would no way in Hell go July 4th to Labor Day even if it was free. Cutty is a 2 day deal at best

Vineyard access isn't much of a problem. No one has ever told me to leave, and I started fishing there in "73". Drive down every dirt road to the water I wanted. You run into anyone, look them in the eye and say hello! And keep freiking walking.

i'm gonna have to go w/ cutty. Went over there twice this past september and it's just a great place. Went commando style on both nights and just fished from the time the ferry dropped us off till the time they picked us up. I think the longest we went with out somebody catching something was 20 minutes. Had fish to mid 30's that night and lost a few that were much larger. Would go back there any day of the week.

MV has the luxury of being able to drive in a comfortable, heated vehicle to many diverse fishing locations. Inlets, sand bars, estuaries, rips, rocks,...
Cuttyhunk has rocks. Great structure, but much less diversity than MV. Also, you have to hoof it over rough terrain,...but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The island is set back in time, and recalibrates the soul like no other place. I've fished both, including about 14 trips to Cuttyhunk, and it'll always be one of my top all-time favorite places in the entire world.

Vineyard access isn't much of a problem.

this is particularly true in the fall, and you can get wherever you want to with a bit of walking.

i've NEVER had a problem with access there.

recalibrates the soul like no other place.
