I heard that the trajectory of the Shuttle launch tonight at 9:35pm may make it visible along most of the east coast!

Anyone know anything about this?

I know there is at least 4 computers on the shuttle and each one is about equivalent to a 8088 I think? That's the predecessor to a 286 :eek:

Looks like the launch is a go. From 9:35 for perhaps 5 min watch the southern sky if it's clear...

If you guys are dying to see a launch tonight, we have a geo going up from Kourou, French Guiana around 5:30 tonight. I think you can see it on the launch company's webcast/site (below). The actual feed isn't up yet, but there's some interesting stuff on there now about satellite launches.
I won an all expense paid trip in a contest last year and my family and I had the opportunity hang out and party with the bigs, tour Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Center and watch the launch of another satellite from the balcony of the building that was the command center for the Apollo missions. While a launch itself is fairly short, it is an awesome experience. I would really like to see a shuttle take off.

I was looking outside, after watching launch on CNN. Can't confirm that I saw it, though I did see a yellow light moving horizontally across horizon south to east...

Took a while but we have a confirmed sighting off the Tiverton, RI observation deck. First time I've ever seen it.

Conditions were not ideal. Didn't pick the shuttle up until she cleared the lights of Newport and cloud cover.

Was about a magnitude 3-4 based on other stars. Not easy to see but still visible.

Unfortunately that was probably air traffic. A lot into the Providence area as well.

This would have looked like a moderate star moving nearly straight up from the SW. I was quite suprised how long after launch it took to get into our view...

Saw the shuttle on Saturday night from Neds Point in Mattapoisett. It was great -clear cold night watched it for about 35 seconds . Bright yellow flame about 25 degrees above the horizon west to east lost it in the lights of Falmouth.

looked but could not find it from Warwick.... Not ideal location to spot it where I was...

I think it would have been a difficult pickup unless you were close to the coast or had a very dark southern sky. It was pretty hazy up to about 30 deg above the horizon as well.
