HAS ANYONE EVER USED BUNKER SPOONS FOR STRIPED BASS? I ONCE WATCHED A STRIPED BASS VIDEO AND THE GUY WAS USING THESE HUGE SPOONS. HE LANDED SOME VERY IMPRESSIVE STRIPERS. HAVEN'T HAD MUCH LUCK FINDING THESE SPOONS IN STORES OR EVEN ON THE WEB. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I picked up a bunker spoon at a tackle swap a few years ago. Have trolled the thing for 200 miles on wire. From 20 ft to 75 ft. Never had a hit.
I know the Long Island guys use them.
They sell them at the Boaters World in RI. Not cheap!!

I like Niner rigs and tubes.

Snug Harbor Marina & Boaters World have them. I heard they are effective in Fall, but never tried one. The guys down aroungd Long Island swear by them though. They are upwards of 12" long, amazing that the fish hit them. White is the color to go with though.

Mike over at M+D has them and they do work but must be set up right to catch fish or all you get is skunked:(

I NORMALLY TROLL WITH LEAD CORE LINE WITH A 80# MONO LEADER AT THE END APPROX. 10 FEET LONG. WHAT WOULD BE THE PROPER SET-UP FOR BUNKER SPOONS?

I think you need a special rod(10ft) to deal with the thumping of such a big spoon. Plus you need to troll them around a school of Bunker:confused:

Red Top has the spoons as well. Get the white ones, no, they do not have to be used near a school of bunker and as far as not setting them up corectly and getting skunked?????? Maybe I am lucky but have not been skunked with them yet and I really have no idea what "setting them up properly" would mean??

I troll them with 6 and 6.5 ft wire line rods, nothing special. They work well I have not landed anything HUGE on them and prefer 9er riges when trolling but Bunker Spoons are the cats/Bass Meow in jersey and virginia.

Good luck.

PS they ain't cheap the big ones are 24-27 bucks.

Trayder is right everyone I know that trolls them use wire and you need to get the swimming set by moving the keel from front to back till the right wobbel is found. Al Lorenzetti put out a good video on them and wire called Trolling for Bass and Blues.

Does 9'ers lures have a website? Which of his products seem to work best? I have never used them but have heard good reports. Are they shad body umbrella rigs?

Thanks...
Don

179,
I think they are umbrella rigs, and they are probably the most effective way to get fish, but the chance of a hook in your hand/wrist/arm/leg/eye/nose/foot, go up quite a bit.
Nows the time to drift your dead herring, the bass still have the taste in there mouth, but no more fresh fish to find.

They are umbrella rigs with plastic shad bodies. Colors that I have found work the best relates directly to the day. Bright day- Chartruse, dark day-Black and or Blue back. When I use the rigs I put out one Chartruse and one black/blue back and which ever is more productive will go on both rigs. I troll 2 6.5 roller tip customs with 50# wire and a 60# 15 ft leader on penn senator 113 HSP's.

I just ordered some more 10 mins ago directly from the company. No website but you can call then and they wil ship imeadetley if they are in stock.

Ask for Eric, super nice guy, 508-822-9650

The rigs are not cheap but in my opinion are well worth the $$

Trayder,
Thanks for the tel no. I'll give him a call later on. I'll give them a try. I have been using the simple Snug Harbor umbrella's with the green tubes and have good success, but I'm always looking for ways to improve the odds.....

I use the " new england" stlye. It helps to bounce off rocks if you hit a hump. Red is my favorite color..
Also bougt a couple of sqiud rigs. First time I put it in the water we had a triple hook up. They warn you about this on the tube that they come in. Never thought it was anything more that propaganda. Its not!
I will sell my bunker spoon. Used with no marks.:)
