TDF - You sure you're only getting 5MB downstream? I get that with Comcast but only half of what you get upstream. I thought FIOS was more ~15 MB downstream????:huh:

Can you guys get the FIOS TV or is it just phone and internet? I have Cox right now and I'm going to be going to another provider for TV when I get the new HD TV. If I can get the whole package from Verizon, I might switch the whole shebang.

There are 3 different tiers of FiOS. I got the cheapest which is only $30 a month because we already have phone service w? Verizon.

Here is a link to the different tiers

They're still working on the TV aspect because my Town currently has a Contract w? comcast for Cable.....but soon.

Right now Its just Phone and Internet

There are three tiers of Internet service:

* 5 Mbit/s Downstream/2 Mbit/s Up Price: $39.95/month
* 15 Mbit/s Downstream/2 Mbit/s Up Price: $49.95/month
* 30 Mbit/s Downstream/5 Mbit/s Up Price: $199.95/month

TDF I am glad you love yor FIOS. I have been installing it for about 8 months, and it seems all of our customers love it. Some people don't understand the difference between the Fios and the cable internet. I usually do a speed test before I swap someone to the Fios. 9 times out 10 the speed test on the cable will give different speeds if I do the test multiple times within minutes of each other. I have never seen a cable upload faster than about 500 Kbs/s. Ours is always 1500 Kbs/s to 1800 Kbs/s. Also the rumor around the company is that they are going to bump the 5meg service upto 10 meg in the future, and leave it at the 5meg price.

This week I am in school for the video, and all I can say is wow..

If anyone is interested in speed test, we usually use this one:

www.speakeasy.net/speedtest

I currently have 15 meg service at home, and I love it.

Here is a site with FAQ's and on the left you can punch in your phone number to see if it is available in your area:

When am I going to get it in Salem,MA? I just got comcast internet because Verizon does not have FIOS available in Salem yet, or at least that's what came back when I put my zip code in the verizon site!

I predominately work on the South Shore, however they have us travelling to Tyngsboro, Boxford, and such frequently. I would say within the next year your towns will see it. You have to understand that it takes awhile, we build a whole new system in each town, and we still have to maintain the old one. Also the whole thing cost them much deniero. They used to put out a list of towns, and when they could exspect construction to begin, I will check around for one. Also just because you plug your phone number in and itsays it is not available does'nt mean that they have started the build yet..

This potential customer on Broadmeadow Ln would love it. Has it been avoided because of the underground utilities?

Crash not sure about that, it is covered by the Brockton Garage, I am out of Weymouth. They are still building in that area though, so maybe they are waiting on the digging crews.

Here is a screen shot of my speed at home:

Our speed is consistant, where as cables varies by how many people are using the connection over the cable plant. But in general ours is faster.

MrHunters Fios is available in Essex, and Hamilton, so Manchester can't be that far away...

funny i saw a verizon truck today and got all excited.... no fiber in hand though

yep what he said about cable.... thats why even though its a crappy dsl connection at least its dedicated.

Cable is setup in nodes through the city... each with a specified bandwidth... but if molly movie downloader is living next door your speeds are gonna drop. maybe not noticeably if molly is by herself but if molly tells all her friends how easy it is to download movies than you are f'd.

sorry its been a long day.
