I used this reel most of the fall. I think it's a decent reel. No bailer problems on a heave. This reel got dunked a few times:usd: and still ran like a champ.
I haven't heard any other feed back on this reel. Is there any?
Happy New Year everyone.

I used to love my old 650 until I tried a 706z. No comparison.

I used the 6500SSM all fall. Flawless. H.D. for sure. I packed the gearbox with Grease. I wish they would make a 5500SSm. The 6500 SSM is a little on the heavy side on my 1081M but it will do. Balances very nicely on my 1201M. I tried out a 5500SSG, Graphite version. Seems as smooth as the metal 6500SSM. My concern was over stressing the rotor and bail arm using braid of 30-50lb. with excessive drag pressure. The Fin-Nor Model 12 offshore may be the in between reel for the 9'. Weighs in < 20oz.

I bought a 650ssm this Summer for the boat. Worked great. I have used it all of late Nov and Dec fishing in SoCo in the surf and have no issues other than I didn't like the little knob they have on it to kick the bail over so I removed it and made the bail manual.
I think the reel is a good deal at $119.00, which is what I paid.
