View Full Version : What Was The Number 1 Thing You Learned About Fishing In 07'? BigFish 12-31-2006, 09:09 AM  I learned how to travel lighter and with a smarter plug bag!:uhuh: afterhours 12-31-2006, 09:11 AM i'll tell you IN '07. :hee: fishaholic18 12-31-2006, 09:13 AM i'll tell you IN '07. :hee: :fishslap: :hee: Squid kids Dad 12-31-2006, 09:29 AM It aint 07 yet...:gf: snake slinger 12-31-2006, 09:38 AM i need to fish a lot more in 07 Sluggoslinger 12-31-2006, 09:47 AM If you don't trust the guys you have with you on the boat, don't leave the keys in if you go to piss off the back... tattoobob 12-31-2006, 10:03 AM #1 thing I learned in 06 is: don't have your pictures on the bait shop walls with cows, when talking to people on the beach keep tight lips about your catches. A couple of other things, Don't go to the ocean with undersized gear this is a sure fire way of losing a good fish, the same gear used for sand is not the same gear you use in the rocks, Don't panic when you have a big fish on, alot of fish are lost due to poor decisions when a fish is hard fighting and taking you to school. jimmy z 12-31-2006, 10:46 AM To do the same things I did in '06.;) Happy New Year everyone:usd: Goose 12-31-2006, 12:04 PM How to have a cup of shut the hell up:sick::hee: In The Surf 12-31-2006, 12:28 PM I need to get out and fish more RickBomba 12-31-2006, 12:34 PM Tony, that's awesome, now can you teach Rappin Mikey that? The Dad Fisherman 12-31-2006, 12:57 PM Finally figured out the eel thing.....was never really fishing them right before this year. also learned that running to a 10 minute blitz of schoolies isn't worth ending up in the Doctors office over GattaFish 12-31-2006, 01:23 PM swimming in november is not to bad until you get out,,,, unintentionally of course.... Pete F. 12-31-2006, 02:01 PM That I don't have to carry every plug I own to catch fish, in fact I am better off to carry a few and use them well. vanstaal 12-31-2006, 02:40 PM do take the spot for granted what we do is very dangerous accedents happen in the blink of a eye !be safe everyone. 5/0 12-31-2006, 02:43 PM  I learned how to travel lighter and with a smarter plug bag!:uhuh: I'll let you know in a year:bshake: 5/0 BigFish 12-31-2006, 02:44 PM You guys are killing me.........is that all you got?:rotfl: jim mullen 12-31-2006, 03:12 PM I have not yet fished in '07 yet, I'll tell you tomorrow afternoon. Jim FittyPoundah 12-31-2006, 03:33 PM I would have to say, that I learned always save your left over sand eels and keep them on ice. Even if you don't get to fish for a few days afterward. You never know when the sand eel run is going to run dry, and it's always good to have some, even if they stink and are falling apart a little..it might be the difference between you being the only one on the beach catching anything or getting skunked like everyone else :hee: Pete F. 12-31-2006, 04:07 PM You guys are killing me.........is that all you got?:rotfl: You only asked for one thing Remember some guys are indecisive and can't figure out the one thing. Some are so smart they learned nothing. chris L 12-31-2006, 04:09 PM the one thing i have learned is larry is pushing life no no really the one thing so far is 06 is no more luds 12-31-2006, 04:53 PM I learned how much I would love to have a digital camera with me but it's just one more thing too carry. Even when I fished with someone who had one we were too lasy to go back to our gear to get it.:smash: Hopefully I'll get a few nice ones close to the truck this season. GoFish 12-31-2006, 05:27 PM Flatten my barbs when only small fish around. Rigged Slug-Gos. OK, did I win those lurker plugs yet? pbadad 12-31-2006, 05:29 PM Fish closer to home. Found out the fish were holding bait in estuaries that I was driving over on my way to "my" fishing destinations. Roger 12-31-2006, 05:29 PM I learned how much I would love to have a digital camera with me but it's just one more thing too carry. Even when I fished with someone who had one we were too lasy to go back to our gear to get it. That reminds me. I learned how great it was to have a digital camera that was easy to keep with me. I got a Pentax Optio waterproof and a Chubs lanyard. The lanyard goes around my neck and the camera goes in my shirt pocket. I don't even notice that it's there. I got lots of good shots that I would have missed if my camera was buried in my tackle bag. luds 12-31-2006, 05:34 PM That reminds me. The lanyard goes around my neck and the camera goes in my shirt pocket. I don't even notice that it's there. Tagger 12-31-2006, 05:45 PM where'd i leave my crystal ball ? Squibby17 12-31-2006, 06:13 PM Fish closer to home. Found out the fish were holding bait in estuaries that I was driving over on my way to "my" fishing destinations. same here i fished long 'death march' excursions when I ended catching my best fish 5 minutes from home. can't wait to try out my new plug bag Canalman 12-31-2006, 06:14 PM How to have a cup of shut the hell up:sick::hee: Amen... and always carry a nip of "get the f--- away from me" :hihi: Canalman 12-31-2006, 06:23 PM The big thing I learned this year has to do with fishing rough water. And the reason I learned it was becuase I stopped listening to other people, who told me that it was "too rough" or "not worth it". Had a few nights this year where I would ordinarily have gone home and went back to bed.. One night really sticks out. Got to the spot with F18 there was a guy there I know... he was walking back and said, "I didn't even take a cast... way to rough." Well he was right about the too rough part because after I got on my rock I was forced backwards while my korkers slid like skates across the rocks... the surges went from dry rock to waiste deep white water.. somehow I stayed on my feet :uhoh:... I changer position and took a cast BANG fish on... next cast another. There were rollers coming in that looked like the beginning of Hawaii 5-0 but the fish were there heavy. Had several fish from 20 to almost 30#... F18 broke off one that had to go much higher. This basically means that I'll be risking my life more often next year:musc: Canalman 12-31-2006, 06:24 PM I learned how much I would love to have a digital camera with me but it's just one more thing too carry. Even when I fished with someone who had one we were too lasy to go back to our gear to get it.:smash: Hopefully I'll get a few nice ones close to the truck this season. Got my waterproof camera case for x-mas... all set ProfessorM 12-31-2006, 07:47 PM This basically means that I'll be risking my life more often next year:musc: Oh to be young again :crying: striperjerk1 01-01-2007, 07:16 AM Learn how to keep plug bag light and tight. Swimmer 01-01-2007, 07:25 AM Don't start on the tuna sandwich until all the gear is stowed away. Travel lighter. Be selfish and fish more, life is short, (just kidding). Find someone who can wire up subliminal messages in my wife's pillows that quietly imbue her with thoughts of let Frank fish more, let Frank fish more, let Frank fish more. And not feel guilty about when you do go fishing. Not have as much patience with the nut purposely casting metal at you!!!! Flaptail 01-01-2007, 08:42 AM I learned that there is way more to learn than I thought I knew. There are so many ways to trick bass and the reality is I will never know them all and never be an "authority" on the subject. Therefore humility shall be my guide.:eek5: Mike P 01-01-2007, 10:06 AM I learned that I should wear a helmet and body armor if I'm fishing the Canal across from Slipknot :bl2: :bl: Swimmer 01-01-2007, 10:21 AM Hey MikeP, Slip cast that far? Wow. Slingah 01-01-2007, 10:26 AM I learned how to rig and fish sluggos...a lure I hadnt used that much before....and landed some fish that I might not have otherwise..... Slipknot 01-01-2007, 10:32 AM I learned that I should wear a helmet and body armor if I'm fishing the Canal across from Slipknot :bl2: :bl: :D:D:eyes: :pop: Raven 01-01-2007, 10:38 AM and again in 06......... not to believe everything i read or hear.... (IE: not everything goes according to the best of plans ect.) and to be ever more observant as a biologist who studies animals including fish thru observation. and to look a little deeper............. before i leap.:lasso: Finaddict 01-01-2007, 11:29 AM Push myself a little further ... although be smart about it as I usually wound up falling in when doing that ... :smash: ... but wound up getting the fish too ... :uhuh: ... fish lighter, as I tend to use about four to six plugs everytime I am out ... I don't necessarily have to be prepared like a boy scout every time I fish - lean and mean ... or hire a sherpa to carry my crap ... ... build in extra time for fishing ... ... get the digital waterproof camera to take photos. The Dad Fisherman 01-01-2007, 11:38 AM ... fish lighter, as I tend to use about four to six plugs everytime I am out ... I don't necessarily have to be prepared like a boy scout every time I fish - lean and mean ... or hire a sherpa to carry my crap ... I'm willing to help you out with this one. The best way to only fish 4 to 6 plugs.......is to only OWN 4 to 6 plugs. I know Julie wants you to throw out some of the old Plugs, You don't Want to carry around a lot of Plugs, and I have plenty of room for Plug Storage at my House.....Seeeee Its a Win-Win-Win situation. Its the least I can do....What are friends for :hee: fishaholic18 01-01-2007, 11:51 AM The big thing I learned this year has to do with fishing rough water. My body hurts thinking about it. Was a blast though.:wiggle: Bass Babe 01-01-2007, 12:28 PM The number of times you go fishing per year, how many fish you catch, how big they are, how expensive your rig is, the number of casts you take, how serious you are...doesn't matter, as long as you have a good time. Finaddict 01-01-2007, 12:33 PM I'm willing to help you out with this one. The best way to only fish 4 to 6 plugs.......is to only OWN 4 to 6 plugs. I didn't realize one of your ambitions this season was to try and become a comedian ...:usd: Mike P 01-01-2007, 12:48 PM Hey MikeP, Slip cast that far? Wow. One of these days, he'll probably do it with the line still attached to his jig ;) basswipe 01-01-2007, 01:01 PM I learned that I need to hit the pipe slower in order to get all the crack smoke.:tooth: Seriously though the two main things I learned is I need to put in even more time and to explore new areas. surfer247 01-01-2007, 02:57 PM You mean in 06.I learned you need to check for nicks in the leader everytime you catch a fish.I lost a nice one due to the nick in the leader.it happened a few times.now I learned my lesson. luds 01-01-2007, 03:04 PM Got my waterproof camera case for x-mas... all set nice Back Beach 01-01-2007, 03:24 PM 1. I learned how to swim with waders on. Twice. 2. Water can be deeper than it appears.:uhuh: vineyardblues 01-01-2007, 03:48 PM Sounds dumb, but I am going to say it any how. Fish a sinking needle on the beach, fish a floating needle on the rocks. Ok I said it :bshake: Maybe someone else will not learn the hard way like I did so many times VB MarshCappa 01-02-2007, 10:07 AM The importance of tides was big for me last year. Keeping the tide chart handy was a big improvement in my past technique of just going when I had the spare time. I still do that but try to plan it out on the appropriate tide changes. I also discovered how relaxing chunking on the beach can be. I managed to get some quality time with the wife on the beach with a chunk in the surf and catch a few while lounging with the lady. RIROCKHOUND 01-02-2007, 10:21 AM I learned to keep fishing.. no matter how slow people say it is.. by putting your time in at known and unknown spots... you will be rewarded... bttfish 01-02-2007, 10:46 AM plug bag, kastmaster, and topwater Poppers are the bombs!!! Surf fishing for the first time... Actually caught fish!!! Happy New year all!!! Want ta make more friends.. Wife accuse me of being unsocial.. Ya know what I mean? :tooth: :bshake: :wavey: zimmy 01-02-2007, 10:57 AM Don't wade 300 yards with the current at your back before checking to see how hard it will be to wade back against the current. No matter how prepared you think you are, the big ones can still get away. Also known as: the abrasion resistance of powerpro and whiplash both stink. Joe 01-02-2007, 11:22 AM http://www.surfcasting-rhodeisland.com/oz2.jpg Goose 01-02-2007, 11:31 AM See what the 'dark side of the moon' will do to ya in the winter. Skitterpop 01-02-2007, 11:56 AM Hey MikeP, Slip cast that far? Wow. He can hit Scorton`s from mainland jetty :musc: Christian 01-02-2007, 12:27 PM i learned that when i prepare to go fishing i always do much better. checking the wind speed, tide, and moon, all before i go out. it helped me locate way more fish. also doing alot of recon along the beach at low tide, and marking on the beach whereever i saw holes, and cuts, then comming back and fishing them when they were covered. usually every little pothole held a fish, when they were in the area. BassNuts 01-02-2007, 12:30 PM When fishing Montauk, do not fish up front or in Turtle Cove during the fall run...much better to take a long walk deep on the south side (after dark...sort of like a commando!!) Rappin Mikey 01-02-2007, 02:15 PM The number one thing I learned this year was how to fight a seal properly. Swimmer 01-02-2007, 04:01 PM Did you hit him with the weighted gloves Mikey or did you go toe to flipper barefisted!:laugha: 2na 01-03-2007, 08:40 AM He smacks 'em with the empty Twisted bottle. Mikey, are you forgetting about your boat fighting lessons? JohnR 01-03-2007, 09:02 AM The number one thing I learned this year was how to fight a seal properly. He Goes "Jimmy SuperFly Snuka" on 'em from the top bar of the Jeep nightfighter 01-03-2007, 06:31 PM Not to let ChrisL find the 'shortcut' beyond the pyramids:whackin: :walk: :walk: :walk: :walk: :walk: :walk: :walk: Backbeach Jake 01-03-2007, 07:02 PM I learned that fishermen are being denied access to the shore at an alarming rate. And it's being reserved for those with political and monetary clout. If we're to remain shore fishermen, we're gonna have to fight for the beaches. PrisonFish 01-03-2007, 07:28 PM That I should never ever wash my lucky fishing glove again no matter how bad it stinks! :btu: Squibby17 01-03-2007, 10:32 PM I learned that fishermen are being denied access to the shore at an alarming rate. And it's being reserved for those with political and monetary clout. If we're to remain shore fishermen, we're gonna have to fight for the beaches. HERE! HERE!:claps: Motor Fish 01-03-2007, 11:25 PM rigged black sluggos :uhuh: And not to be stubborn about only fishing with the plugs that I have made. :smash: vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
