Heard you on the radio today(denis too) but couldn't call back. Somethings not right with my radio. Were you out Flukin? I gragged 12 all between 15-17":af: Lost 2 that HAD TO BE over 18". Caught a nice Bluefish blitz at East Beach on the way in. That saved the day, I hate coming back with no fish in the cooler!

The "SB" hail worked great today....I hooked up with Surfrunner and a few others from SB in the morning.

I played around off the East and West Walls of PJ. Grabbed about 7 blues (all small -- except one REALLY REALLY fat one estimated at about 16 - 18 lbs). Got the big one to the boat but the leader on the tube snapped off as I attempted to lift him into the boat.....damn, it was a late August bluefish in June....I was floored and couldn't beleive it!

Teaches me a lesson. I had two trolling outfits running -- one heavy duty (Penn 113 with International Rod) with wire and 50 pound leaders on the tubes, the other a medium action St. Croix with an Abu Garcia 7000C3 with 20 pound mono and 20 pound leaders trailing a light umbrella rig pulling orange tubes. I ran this "light" unit cause we we grabbing a lot of cocktail blues, and I figured a cocktail on a real light tackle would be fun. Guest which rig the MONSTER blue hit on?!?!?

Fish SCREAMED the Garcia reel, to the point I was convinced I grabbed the bottom. When I lifted out of the rod holder, he went straight to the bottom and stayed there. Thought for sure I had a 20+ bass, but to my surprise when I finally finessed him up I saw those nice pearly teeth smiling at me!!! He was a lot of fun as I had to really play CAREFULLY and tire him out. There was no horsing this one in on such lite gear.

Hooked him right in front of 5 Cottages. Next time I bring my net and/or gaf.

Lots of folks bottom fishing today. Glad to hear you guys scored so well. I was thinking about dropping some worms, but had company on the boat with me today and didn't think they would enjoy the bobbing up and down on my small 19 footer.....so we stayed mobile trolling.

Let's keep the "SB" hail going all summer......channel 69 seemed to work for all.

Homerun, maybe you were just out of range for me. I could hear you, denis and surfrunner but I guess I can't transmit that far. Thats what I get for buying the "cheap" VHF...... Yeah I was bobbin today, by 2pm I was pretty dizzy.... Nice job on the Gorilla, can't wait for those talkle busters to invade the Breachway!

Yeah, I know how you feel. I picked up a nice new VHF this winter, but with all VHF it is usually only as good as the line of sight (point-to-point). Fishing the walls can be tricky because if I am on the West Wall I sometimes lose the ability to hail someone over at the East Wall, and vice versa.

Oh well, let's keep practicing.

The SB thing worked well. Diaster of a day for me though. Will try it again next Saturday.

Are the hand-held VHFs (the cheaper the better) worth buying, or too limited in range?

Drifted for fluke today between the W. gap and Neb. Shoal, and south of the NS can. Only action was one nice 24" fluke, and a some nibbles. Seemed pretty slow

the sb-hail-69 worked sat morning,scotch bonnet i was at the pink house down your way,talked to surfrunner,homerun04,and salty,did not get to see anyone,but the hailing worked.

boy fluking really s---s,fished two daysfor a total of 8 keepers,18" is a big fish,lots of 16-17,but it's a day on the water.

denis, I was off East Beach with the "fleet". Something must be wrong with my radio because we were close by. I thought you heard me cause you came on after I tried getting back to Saucey. I think the bigger Fluke are deep. The day I hit them last week I was out alot further and also it was a north wind. Or maybe it was beginners luck, that was my 1st time Flukin. I haven't been able to buy an 18"r since!

Hey guys it's good to hear that the channel 69 thing is working. One of these days I'll hook up with somebody on there, lol.

If you guys are having problems with transmission range make sure you have your vhf set to full power 25-watts, sometimes I forget and leave mine on the 1-watt output.

Here is a funny one, I was out at BI southwest corner yesterday morning. My boat has a cb-radio installed and I was talking clear as day to some of the beach buggy guys at Charlestown, and Quonny clear as day....!

Thats it, my radio says 1W. How do I change it? Guess I should read the manual, eh!!!

I had the pleasure of talking to Saucey last night on the VHF, and putting an eyeball on him and his boat. It's too bad both of us were shooting blanks fishing.

The "SB" hail on 69 is working out REAL well in RI waters. I have spoken to Scotch Bonnet, Surfrunner and 179 (even had a visual on 179 last night).

Let's keep this going so we can ALL get into fish.

BTW - the "SB" hail is working great in RI waters.....any luck off the Cape for the MA fisherman?

I trailor my boat and spilt time between BI and Cape Cod. Would love to pick this up on the Cape as well.
