Hi all.

I am sitting here in California just having gotten off the phone with my brother in law in Mass. I get back to your neck of the woods twice a year and get out for stripers, bluefish, cod, and tuna sometimes. I fish out here about once a week for salmon, halibut, tuna, rockfish, sturgeon, and many others. Fishing is really a major part of my life.

My brother in law, Rob, sold his boat last year or the year before and hardly gets out fishing anymore, he really misses it. Rob has a captains license and has run charter boats and even a party boat. He has all of his own gear and really misses fishing.

Here in California they have a hitch hikers program where recreational guys with boats post on local fishing boards that they have a spot(s) available and need experienced guys, that like to fish, to go out on a trip and help with the boat and the gas expenses. I don't know if there is a program like that on the east coast.

Anyway, if there is anyone out there that is looking for an experienced fisherman to go out with and to share expenses, cleaning the boat, cleaning the fish, running the boat when necessary then give Rob a try.

Richard, have your bro-in-law come aboard and mix with the community here as well as with places like local clubs. I'm sure there are people that would be happy to share fiberglass and outboard for knowledge and gas...

Yes there are stripers out here and they usually catch them in San Francisco bay. I do not personnally target them because they are rather small and I am spoiled by what I catch when I come back east. The minimum size here is 18" and most of the fish caught are 18 to 24". There are some big ones caught but they are few and far between.

The striper population here came from transplants of eastcoast stripers planted in the thirties I believe. There is a rather large program hatchery raising stripers but it is under attack because they eat the salmon which are also hatchery raised. Salmon out here is the fish of choice and probably is the equivalent, in popularity for catching, of the striper is back there.

I had an opportunity to do some striper fishing and sturgeon fishing in the Sac delta a few years ago - was fun ;)

Not east coast striper fishing by any stretch (though those surfcasters on the coast are sure hard core). But we also don't have those big soft lipped sturgeon like you do. The handful of atlantic sturgeon we do have are almost extinct and illegal to catch...
