Fisherwoman 06-26-2002, 11:18 AM Ching-Wei, I think that is a good idea, as we chased huge schools of fish on the boat the other day all the way to Marblehead. That is a great beach, have only fished it once myself, but hooked into a large there on night that I dropped almost 10 min later. If you are going to use bait, try using Mac's, herring or clams for bait as that is the main meal right now, if you are going to try plugging for them, try a big mombo minnow or dark swimmer. Keep an eye on the sky as they are calling for a chance of thunderstorms. Sometimes the bad weather can really turn the bite on, let us know how you do. Good luck!!!
chingweiliao 06-26-2002, 02:45 PM Hi Fisherwoman:
Thanks for your encourgement! By the way, any idea of teh best fishing tide there!
I have checked the yahoo map for the direction to devereaux beach. Suprisely, I found the driving direction from Yahoo to there is quie complicated!
...lowell st to main st to boston street to essex st to summer st to norman st to new derby st to lafayette st to pleseant street to bubier rd to atlantic ave... well quite a lot ... any straight forward way to get there ... anyone please shed some light here?
By the way, I need to order some fresh bait (mac or herring )from the local tackle store (it would be very helpful if I can order it through phone and pick it up after 9:00 PM). anyone know any nearby tackle store near marblehead?
Regards,
Ching-Wei Liao
Fisherwoman 06-26-2002, 03:59 PM I would fish 2 hours before high tide thru the falling tide. Don't know of any tackle shops that will let you order bait over the phone, and most are closed by 7-8pm. for better directions may try Marblehead sufcasters web site I believe it is under www.surfcaster.com You may be able to pick up some info there and check there message board if they have one and see how the fishing is.

chingweiliao 07-08-2002, 10:25 AM Dear Fishwoman:
I have no luck on SB at Deveurax this past Friday (July 4th, 2002)
but I did catch one fluke (a 16" summer flounder) on a cutted herring tail during the time I I reel my bait in for checking. Besides the fluke , I have caught two sting-rays but no -SB !
In detail, I went to the deveurax beach at marblehead around 5:00 AM this past Friday morning . When I got there, the tide is coming in and it is two hours before hide tide. I was fishing at the southen end of the beach near the rocks, actually the spot I tried is between rock and sand.
Nevertheless, I did visit the park on marblehead neck and found the scene and weather is excellent there. I am very curios and found that I am the only fishman there. Is it because the people there don't welcome fishman at all (I saw sign like no parking at the road after 8:00 PM and they close parking lot for people like us without sticker and many sign specify no parking etc.)?
Regards,
Ching-Wei Liao
Fisherwoman 07-08-2002, 11:19 AM Ching-wei, Don't give up hope. I am not sure about the parking restrictions there if they really close that gate, as when I was up there you could park there in the main parking lot all night and nobody bothered us, we were fishing the beach right in front of the lot. you will have trouble fishing there during the day as the beach goers are out in full swing this time of year. It is also getting very hot out and those fish will probably be more active thru the night. As for the canoe, give it a shot, you have nothing to lose, just be careful and always wear a life jacket!!

I live in the area and have been fishing Deveraux for the last few weeks. I have been told that poppers have been working in the early morning and live eels. As for the park, I have never seen them, close the gates and even if you park just ouside, you are not far from the yacht clubs (where they seem to park on the street all night). I have been fishing with Squid and Mackerel.
chingweiliao 07-09-2002, 11:49 AM Hi lofster:
I fished at the end of Philip street. There is a small park named
or organized by GoldthWait. It post that all car withoutr sticker will be towed and it also use steel chain to close the gate when I got there around 5 AM.
I guess, the park you refer is the deveraux beach. Indeed, since I know crowd will be in around 8:00 AM, I avoid it when I fish there last Thursday.
By the way, I heard the third light of causeway (I guess it is counted from the main beach park end) is a hot spot. Please comment whether it is the on the side of beach parking side or the other side.
Thanks,
Ching-Wei Liao

The goldthwait beach is connected to Deveraux. If you park at deveraux you can walk to goldthwait. I have not fished it yet. The third light is to the left of the parking lot for deveraux on the ocean side. I have heard anywhere past the No lifeguard sign on the beach side over the end of causeway is good. I have been surfcasting w/ out much luck. I will try poppers early moring next. Let me know when you plan on being there next and we can join up.

chingweiliao 07-24-2002, 10:09 AM Hi lofter:
I am sorry to reply this message late. I just felt frustrated about marblehead when you sent me the mail. Recently, although I can catch fish consistently at the river mouth of PI, I decide to try differnt place like marblehead around hide tide. my first trial was yesterday, I tried the northern hampton beach which is simialr to marblehead. SHam on me, I fail to enjoy fishing why there is no bite at all.
I always remind myself to see this S-B fishing as a sport which is not only a matter of catching but "fishing"--it contains more than just catching, enjoying the meal of the legal cacth, but the sweet happiness about "I breath the salty air, swing my fishing rod, fighting the monster fish and enjoying the nature that God has created for us".
However, I fail to recognize the "fishing" , when S-B lock their jaws. Yesterday night, I went fishing at the nothern hapton beach , where an old timer told me last month that he freqwuently caught 40 " S-B at NHB at this time of year. But, I did not even get a bite from two hour before high tide to one hour after at NHB. I felt exausted just like the time when I fish at marblehead.
The Geographic Topology of northern hapton beach is similar to the beach at marblehead, which has rocks and deep water nearby. I am not sure whether s-b didn't come to the beach side or don't bite my bait at the beach side!
How is the fishing at the marblehead, are you still doing it there?
