It may be "stupid trash TV" but as a few of you mentioned, the women and kids love it so my take is sit and watch it with them. Better than heading for another TV and it helps pass the winter and decrease the guilt factor when you are out fishing all Spring/Summer/Fall...... Right? :biglaugh:

that's because we missuse it- what an educational tool it could be if used that way.......we use it for mindless amusement and entertainment for the most part, there is good tv if you know how to find it, my .02

I cannot believe I am about to defend Idol but there are FAR worse examples of mindless entertainment on the tube, the radio and the net. Look at all the You-Tube junk that is posted on this very site. Most of it mindless and stupid- but entertaining none-the-less. Sometimes Idol can produce what turns out to be real entertainment and discover talent. Not only is Kelly Clarkson HOT :blush: but she can sing (although she loses points cuz she does not write her own songs).
Back to my original point, I would rather sit with my family on a cold January night and watch people make fools of themselves trying to sing and act than seperate myself from them to avoid it. The real downfall of American Society comes from lack of interaction between people, not from TV, internet, etc....

So right you are on that one....I think TV started to Chit the bed in the 70's, thats about when families started to get more than one set in the house and shows started to become "Innapropriate for Younger Viewers"

Back in its early days and into the late 60's there seemed to be a lot of shows that everyone could watch together. a program was an event for the family.

The Wizard of Oz was on once a year, Rudolf was on once a year and everyone in the house was sitting around together watching it.

Sunday nights was Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom followed by The Wonderful World of Disney and everyone in the house watched it together.

Man I miss those days....

I get a kick out of the ones who are RREALLY surprised they are not going to Hollywood. The only ones we see are a drop in the bucket compared to all those who show up to try out. Imagine the freaks that never make it inside to go before the judges.

Discovery channel ,,, Survivorman or Man vs Wild .... guys get dropped off in remote areas to survive on there own . Watched a guy eat maggots of a dead rotting animal carcass .. If you rip the heads off the maggots there not bad .. and a tremendous source of protien .. :yak4:

I like to watch TV as an escape......Idol is harmless ...a bit hoakey I'll admit
To me it beats watching TV shows that just depicts all the horrible stuff I hear on the news....terrorism, murder, sex crimes...etc.
