What do you guys think are the best reels for trolling deep or shallow.

ive been using my penn 550ssg 's which have been just fine but was curious to what you guys use and like.

for the tubes, my okumas are nice. the 209s are ok too.

Daiwa Slush reel, SL50 for me.

I'll second that. pure simplicity.

Nothing beats a Penn 113, they have been around forever and never break!
And for tube n worn, lead core is used most allways, so you need a spool with plenty of capaticy ! a 114 has a bigger spool

I've been using the 113's since 1984 without a single hint of failure. Can't beat them in my opinion.

Great reel but too heavy in my book and not needed unless you are using wire in my humble opinion, but a reel workhorse for most.

We use penn 113H and TLD20s, I just got the TLDs 2 years ago and no complaints. The penns I have had for at least 20 years and other than new washers and cleanings they still work like the day I got'em.

I'll 2nd or 3rd the 113's they are a workhorse.

I use penn GTI 330s. These have level wind so when you have noobies on the boat they can't mess up.

hold plenty of line and built with penn quality.

Line capacity is short for my preference in trolling, I believe its around 275/30 vs. 450 - 475/30 in the TLD 20's and the 113h's but Hell, the reels are classics and from a durability standpoint they are proven.

penn 320 and 330 gti's for years.
i made the switch over to shimano toriums and i will never look back

i used to use diawa sld's-can't beat a lever drag imo.

Another vote here for the 113h - just a venerable workhouse - I think we have 16, for different applications on the boat. But I know alot of the charter boats on the cape have started switching over to the daiwa 450h - similiar to the 113's, but are a little more rugged and the drags don't have to be changed as often.

I also have a pair of shimano tld 25's - the levers are nice in that you can keep an eye on the drags and don't have to worry about someone socking down the drag w/o knowing and busting off a good fish (or more importantly, my rigs).

113's for wire

330gti's, mono, braid or even wire. We put 50 yds of dacron backing and 100 yards of 50lb wire and it fits, just have to make small knots for the levelwind. Light, holding up well, and the level wind minimizes rookie mistakes.

For pure toughness, when I'm fishing, load up the 113's and let them go, bass, cod, whatever.

I like the Penn 535GS and the 555. Easy to work on and everyone has the parts. The 555 will also hold 5-6 colors of 36lb leadcore and plenty of backing. Priced right.
