View Full Version : Grey's Anatomy
Swimmer 01-22-2007, 09:08 AM Am I correct in assuming that the gay community has labeled the word, or is trying to get the word labeled, forgive me here if I offend anyone, fagot insentive and are trying to make the word itself as divisive to the world as the N word is. I refer to the two guys, one white and gay, the other black and straight, who are actors on the above named TV show. I guess they do not like each other very much and came to blows, no pun intended, on the set a couple of months ago. The black guy called the white guy a fagot. Now the white gay guy is on all the talkies decrying the fact that he was called this awful name. I can't believe he is getting air time to chat up his side of the story. Sounds to me like he is just having trouble adjusting to his lifestyle that is now out in the open for all to see.
The Dad Fisherman 01-22-2007, 09:24 AM Isn't that a cigarrette or a Chord of wood? :hee:
stripersnipr 01-22-2007, 09:50 AM Kind of reminds me of when the Governor of a state (Romney) had to make an apology for using the word niggardly: (Function: adjective
1 : grudgingly mean about spending or granting : BEGRUDGING
2 : provided in meanly limited supply
synonym see STINGY
- nig·gard·li·ness noun
- niggardly adverb)
anything is possible. Political correctness run amok.
Swimmer 01-22-2007, 09:59 AM Cigarette was the first meaning I ever understood it to relate too. Incredibly immature. This is a new lower level of the "perfect world syndrome" that certain people are trying to attain.

Words.. English language, have many meanings.. all in how you mean it.... If you call someone a fag, or a faggot, I doubt the implication, is your calling him a cigarette, or, some small sticks used to kindle a fire...
The Romney incedent with the other word, was absurd..
Political correctness.. just plain sucks out loud.
BigBo 01-22-2007, 12:49 PM This country is going down the toilet real fast when hurting someone's feelings becomes a civil rights violation.
afterhours 01-24-2007, 06:43 PM POLITICAL CORRECTNESS SUX!!! BIG TIME!!!

The thing that was really shocking to me about the Romney thing was that some of those clamoring for the apology seemed to be rational, intelligent people.
Squid kids Dad 01-24-2007, 07:14 PM Like AH said PC sucks
Katie 01-24-2007, 09:32 PM Grey's Anatomy -- one of the few shows i watch on tv. my comments on this have already been said here, no need to repeat them, but i was reading on MSN, and came across this blog posting by John Mayer. i kinda like the idea.
IT'S ONLY A SUGGESTION.
By now you've probably heard of the incredible tension and controversy on the set of TV's hit series "Grey's Anatomy", involving a particularly unsavory homosexual slur allegedly made to a fellow castmate by actor Isaiah Washington. Gay and lesbian groups are outraged, calling for Mr. Washington's immediate termination from the show.
Now, far be it from me to chime in on other people's business, but just like the man standing in line for a movie overhears a stranger behind him whom he knows has confused the finer points of the film "Throw Mama From The Train" with those of "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!", sometimes you have to turn around and butt into a situation that doesn't concern you in order to offer a little bit of assistance.
ABC may fire Mr. Washington, and it seems as if the pressure to do so is mounting by the day. They may also choose to placate all parties involved with some well-constructed press releases and the soothing touch of time, but in my mind, neither outcome succeeds in making any strides in promoting the tenets of tolerance and understanding.
I would like to offer my suggestion for a solution; produce an episode of Grey's Anatomy in which Mr. Washington's character, Dr. Burke comes out to his friends and colleagues as a gay man!!! What better way for an actor to get to the roots of his discrimination than by portraying the very the subject of his own ire for the remainder of his contract? That'll learn ya!
I kinda like that idea..
spence 01-24-2007, 09:40 PM Sounds to me like he is just having trouble adjusting to his lifestyle that is now out in the open for all to see.
Well, that's a bit of a stereotype as well ;)
I'm not against demonizing words, they are just words after all...but this was an example of some hate speech for sure. Using it in this manner is like using the N word.
It's not worth the media attention, but the public does crave this kind of mindless stuff.
But the real issue is that there's a huge double standard towards gay people in this country, and there's a lot of resentment. Can't blame him for making a scene to stir the pot.

BassNuts 01-25-2007, 05:51 AM Political correctness in this country is out of control!!! Like someone else mentioned..hurting someones feelings is now a civil rights violation??? I think my civil rights are being violated by having to put up with all of this, but nobody will ever care because I'm not a member of any "group"
Mike P 01-25-2007, 07:01 AM In England, when you work in a no-smoking office, you go downstairs to "blow a fag" when you take a smoke break ;)
The Dad Fisherman 01-25-2007, 08:27 AM How about this.....If you don't like what the guy said, Don't watch the show.......The End.
If you don't like what's on TV or Radio....Change the Station
If you don't like what's in a magazine......Don't read it.
Real Simple Concept
The world is full of people that truly believe it is their God-Given right to butt into everyone else's business. One guy calls another guy a Fag, the only people who have any business being involved in this are the Person saying it and the Person it is being said to.....let the 2 of them go hash it out somewhere and Move On.
thortum 01-25-2007, 12:30 PM Sounds like a lot of free publicity to me. "Just make sure you spell the name correctly".
Jimbo 01-25-2007, 12:35 PM Well I heard everything is going to be just hunky-dorie now. Isaiah checked himself into rehab in order not to be fired. What a crock! Rehab for name calling. That's what it's come to I wonder how far they go with that? Will he come out and be incapable of ever calling anyone a name again?
Anyone who watches the show (it's a total chick-show so, of course, I watch basically because I am told to sit down, shut up and do so) knows that since Dr. Burke was shot, his character has been little more than a stuck up bore who is only looking out for himself and doesn't appreciate what his chick did for him. The show just doesn't need him.
fishpoopoo 01-26-2007, 08:15 AM In England, when you work in a no-smoking office, you go downstairs to "blow a fag" when you take a smoke break ;)
last time i was on the job in the UK (one hot summer) I had a female colleague approach me and ask:
Fancy a poke?
I thought she wanted to ram my arse with a toilet plunger.
Turns out she was asking me if I wanted some ice cream.
Talk about two peoples separated by a common language. :rotfl:
I think this thread is for fags.
O, excuse me.
Faggots..
Swimmer 01-28-2007, 11:58 AM Bassturbed, fancy a poke? Isn't that queer!
Maybe she knew just what she was doing.
