Now that July is here and the hot summer doldrums are fast approaching, what differences are you going to apply to fishing?

What do I mean? Well, certain areas seem to hold fish well through the summer like parts of Gansett, and the backside of the Cape, but a lot of areas can slow down now too. So what will you do to keep the summer fishing monkey of your back?

I will be targeting fish in cooler waters and deeper water of the canal mostly on a west running tide. Way out on the cape also and areas of Cape Cod Bay from P-town to Hull. But most of the time I will be jigging the canal.

Go earlier and come sunup, maybe fish slower and deeper. Sometimes in the heat of the day you will be surprised at what you might catch in 5 feet of water under a bright summer sun:). I've nailed too many keepers with those last few casts before heading back into the harber, so it's not a fluke that some big ones like to be up with the tide and crabbing or hunting little lobsters.
