Saw this on Ct fisherman that Ct is considering a saltwater license.
So it won't be long now before all the states get a license. FishHawk

Magnesson-Stevens act has been passed, Federal says States have to record numbers of rec. anglers, thus, a license will be required... it will happen in all coastal states, and soon.
The question that should be asked, by the fishing organizations, and clubs... is what will anglers get back?
Access Rights, (foot and ORV), Boat Ramps, Parking? Education? Enforcement?
Or, will the General Funds of the Coastal States, just get a little more padding.....

It will be a pain in the a$$ but it might educate some angles a little. I still think it sucks and we most likely won't get much out of it but if it can do something to help preserve the population then I guess it could be good.

its going to happen either in 2008 or federally in 2011 . I dont mind a $5 hike for combination fresh and salt . but where is the money going in a few years . The law says it must go to the DEP but more than likely it wikll end up in the general fund . My biggest concern is when it is put into law am I going to have to get a license for Ma , RI , NY and Ct ? there is nothing on this yet cause from what I understand mass and RI havent come up with a plan . Ct has been working on this for a while and they will have public meetings near
months end .

same for NH. It would be fine as long as all procedes go directily to fish and wildlife. the money shouldn't go elsewhere.

Every law they pass, every new regulation that they make, brings us all one step closer to being outlaws.

I don't believe that there will be any charge for this. I think that the intent is to get a handle on how many people actually fish in each state???

Paul I hope your right but Ct is not getting any funding because of the drop in license sales so their excuse is to get a saltwater fishing license. What they are not mentioning is that of the license money is going into the general fund. This BS of tax cuts is what causes the government to raise fees , they got to get the money somewhere.

yeesh. still trying to catch our collective breaths here in CT heading off anti-gun legislation (one-gun-a-month, ballistic fingerprinting, licensing of ammo dealers) and now we gotta deal with this crap?

i personally don't mind paying for a saltwater license ... so long as the proceeds go to DEP coffers, and not the general fund.

also, from a political perspective a saltwater license could finally provide a headcount of recreational angling participants - definitely ammo that can be used against the commercial interests.

i'm waiting to hear back from ct sportsmen (our state sportsman's lobbying organization) on where they stand on this issue.
