View Full Version : state insurance

quick decision

I found out yesterday that my home owners insurance company (Holyoke Mutual) was not going to carry me anymore and I was being dropped. The reason they claimed was 3 claims since 2002. My insurance agent said I must go to the state insurance (fair plan). That many insurance companies are trying to drop anyone who lives near the water. My question is this-
1. Do I need a agent or do I deal directly with the state
2. Is there anyway to get around this

Thanx-

Talk to another agency. You may still be able to find a private insurer who'll write a policy.

Even if you have to use FAIR, go thru an agent. If for no other reason than FAIR is notoriously slow at processing payments. Your policy may lapse without any fault of yours, or that of your mortgage company. If an agent accepts payment on behalf of FAIR, documenting that payment may help avoid denial of a claim due to their sloppy bookkeeping practices.
