I am on a brutal stretch. Fished the Back River last night from 6:30 till 10:30 using clam, herring and pogey. Caught a tiny Striper with clam on a floater and that was it. A got a couple of more hits but no takers and my buddy didn't even get a hit. My last 6 times fishing from shore the only catch has been that schoolie. I know July is slow but damn am I get fustrated. :af:

sorry to hear of your bad luck, I totally understand your frustration as I have spent many nights fishing from shore with no luck. It's just tough fishing in the hot weather especially without boat access, keep plugging away though!

Maybe the heat has the inside waters too warm, maybe try some ocean facing beachs and jetties. I'd say night time is the right time now as the water warms, I'm headed out tonight at 7 with John R to put that theory to the test. We are going to drift some eels, maybe sit and chuck, did I say that :), some macks and throw some plastic around some offshore ledges that had some large schools of fish on them the 4th.

I agree with all you guys say, but funny thing is when I fished Friday, (my boston post). It was midday, sunny, shallow and the water was real warm.

But the fish were biting well. Kinda goes against the "Bass School of Knowledge". :D

Brooksie & Jsox21, You guys may want to try fishing some early morning tides, try fishing places with very good current and catch the tide at about 4 AM right before 1st light into early morning and see how you do. Last weeks heat has put a damper on the shore fishing a bit, but sometimes you have to try other spots. Try fishing Nantasket beach thru the night, that sometimes can be pretty good, so can Hingham harbor. Places down near cohassett and Situate 3rd & 4th cliff can be good this time of year.

But remember the hotter it gets, the more you will have to put time in after the sun goes down and before the sun comes up when the water has cooled a bit from the bright sun of the day.

July 4th out in the harbor was awesome to say the least. Just like Van had posted earlier, there have been fish up and working the surface every morning over by the airport and castle Island for the last week or so.

One other place you might want to try is Nutt Island Pier. But don't fish off the Pier, fish to the left of the Pier. There is a great rock bed there that has been holding fish. Try throwing some black Mambo minnows with a black teaser or, use a black popper.
Bottom fishing can be rough, but if you want to try and chunk bait there, do it with no weight, just drift it in the currant.
