To bring your gear or not. That is a tough call. April fishing in the Providence area is on the slow side. Freshwater I'd say is your best bet. I'm not even sure when opening day is for trout, somewhere right around Easter. As for salt...........it's still rather early, though there is a good-size population of winting fish, stripers, white pearch, in the rivers around the city. Would I bring my gear across the Atlantic? If it packs easily, sure, why not.

April is the early start to saltwater fishing for us and can be pretty hit or miss. Some fish can be found in key arrival points along the coast in RI and Some fish can be found up in Providence itself in the vicinity of the PowerPlant / Hot Club / Point Street Bridge / and up along the banks of the river as it extends into Providence. A 7' or 8' Schoolie rod with light tackle spinning is fine for this with plastics and jigs in the 1/2 oz to 3/4 ounce range. Fish are typically small, 12-24 inches being the range.

If fishing in Providence consider a body guard in some spots if going at night :lasso:

Tooooo early to tell but check back in with me in later March and I might be able to point you in the right direction... Welcome to S-B - yet another of our International Contingent

What John said.

Last year the April fishing was fantastic.I'd never caught fresh run stripers in such numbers so early before, some even made the 28" size limit. It was an exception to the norm though.

Like John said holdovers can be had in the Providence river.

Best bet is to get together with someone here to fish with.
