View Full Version : mounting electronics MrHunters 02-11-2007, 11:32 AM whats the material called typically used to flush mount components inside an electronics box? Raider Ronnie 02-11-2007, 11:43 AM You talking about starboard ??? MrHunters 02-11-2007, 11:46 AM yep thats what i thought but when i do a search for that online all i get is port/starboard results... thought it may have been spelled differently Raider Ronnie 02-11-2007, 11:54 AM How much do you need ??? West marine and Boaters world have small sheets , but they are a bit expensive. MrHunters 02-11-2007, 12:11 PM i think i found a place. 12x27x1/4 for 10 bucks. 9 bucks shipping... better not mess up :) Raider Ronnie 02-11-2007, 12:21 PM i think i found a place. 12x27x1/4 for 10 bucks. 9 bucks shipping... better not mess up :) Is 1/4 thick enough ??? I've got some 1/2 & 3/4 in white hanging around. MrHunters 02-11-2007, 12:59 PM its going to mount a radio and a humminbird 787c2 fishfinder/gps you think 1/4 inch will be not enough? Raider Ronnie 02-11-2007, 01:12 PM its going to mount a radio and a humminbird 787c2 fishfinder/gps you think 1/4 inch will be not enough? Maybe, but keep in mind, startboard will expand and cortract (warp) with temp changes Team Rock On 02-11-2007, 02:06 PM I mounted my 10" screen in 3/8" starboard. If I was going to do it again I'd use black Plexiglass (or Lucite, Acrylite, etc.) You could also use a PVC board such as Koma or Azek available at your local lumber yard. I have a ton of scraps but only up to 1x10 MrHunters 02-11-2007, 02:23 PM Maybe, but keep in mind, startboard will expand and cortract (warp) with temp changes hmmm good point. I mounted my 10" screen in 3/8" starboard. If I was going to do it again I'd use black Plexiglass (or Lucite, Acrylite, etc.) You could also use a PVC board such as Koma or Azek available at your local lumber yard. I have a ton of scraps but only up to 1x10 why so? Team Rock On 02-11-2007, 02:32 PM why so? It looks better. I thing you can buy small sheets of it at Lowes in 1/4". MrHunters 02-11-2007, 02:53 PM did a quick search.. plexi is way cheaper. taJon 02-11-2007, 04:51 PM you said mount :D is this for the Ttop thats supposedly coming? MrHunters 02-12-2007, 12:28 PM nope.....top of console taJon 02-12-2007, 04:03 PM nope.....top of console so are you going to extend the top of the console? An electronics box for the ttop would be a good place also, don't you think? taJon 02-12-2007, 04:04 PM we could even probably make the box when the T gets here. wouldn't be too hard. likwid 02-12-2007, 05:19 PM black lexan looks great. :D MrHunters 02-12-2007, 06:06 PM we could even probably make the box when the T gets here. wouldn't be too hard. i kinda want it on the console.... dont really like looking up all the time. still havent agreed to a price on a t-top yet... might have to wait until the end of next season when prices drop again. MTC 02-12-2007, 07:15 PM I mounted my 10" screen in 3/8" starboard. If I was going to do it again I'd use black Plexiglass (or Lucite, Acrylite, etc.) You could also use a PVC board such as Koma or Azek available at your local lumber yard. I have a ton of scraps but only up to 1x10 I second the Black Plexiglass or Lexan from J. Freeman in Boston (Dorchester) Here's of a photo of my install of a heavey E120 and the face of a starboard electronics box up top MrHunters 02-17-2007, 08:42 AM got my black plexi yesterday... also got a piece of clear grey for a cover... now if it would only warm up :) If i dont f up it's gonna look nice :kewl: taJon 02-17-2007, 10:48 AM 26 right now, its a heat wave. measure at least twice and cut only once. then make it fit with a hammer :D MTC 02-18-2007, 12:02 AM I did a Raymarine A65 and a Poly Planer today.... Drill SLOW.... Took 2 try's... Sanded the edged with 120, 400, 800 and Buffed... Looks great. fish4striper 02-18-2007, 12:05 PM Hunter, What size is your boat? I gotta decide how to mount stuff on my cc. Any close up pics of your console? MrHunters 02-18-2007, 01:23 PM 20ft twin vee baycat. i don't have any close ups of mine but this is similar. http://www.twinveeboats.com/images3/19cc/PICT2162_500.jpg im going to have to move the stern light to the top of the box probably. my design has the electronics on the left of the box and then 3 tackle shelves no the right.... thats the other downer about this model... no storage. taJon 02-18-2007, 05:10 PM I think we can make it look sweet. taJon 02-18-2007, 05:11 PM can you find out the dimensions of the console top for me. I may try to make just the frame next week cause I'll have nothing better to do. MTC 02-18-2007, 09:48 PM Here is a panel I just made out of Black Pleglass with a door in the center... sorry about the cell phone photo MrHunters 02-18-2007, 09:53 PM that door is a good idea. is it hinged? fish4striper 02-19-2007, 08:08 AM Oh, you're mounting the box on top of your console? I got a 205 key largo CC, not sure what I want to do. i havent picked it up yet so can't really visualize possible senerios. MrHunters 02-19-2007, 08:15 AM Oh, you're mounting the box on top of your console? I got a 205 key largo CC, not sure what I want to do. i havent picked it up yet so can't really visualize possible senerios. yep... theres all this wasted space on the top of the console. got to get creative on the baycat....its got a ton of space to walk around but like i said before.. no place to store anything... MTC 02-20-2007, 10:09 AM The door is 2 parts glued together with Euroglue... (The stuff the cute chicks were selling at the boatshow... I'm shameless) I glued a third strip on the bottom to so it sits in place. I'm going to put a latch on top. I was tring to make it splash proof. I put a tray inside for holding cell phones, Ipods ect. I'll take a better photo tonight... vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
