My guess is that they look most closely at Hansen and Pineiro in Spring and Hansen wins out with Pineiro becoming long Middle Relief.

I think the Sox will make a trade for a closer before the season starts.

closer by committee for the first month then lester comes back into the rotation - pap back to closer as it should be.

I understand the appeal of wanting to be a starter but the kid could be the BEST closer in history.

Maybe in Red Sox history not Baseball history. We all know that belongs to MO!:D

Papelbon won't be closing. it would be great if he could but docs won't give him clearance. Besides, he'd get more innings as a starter and still get four days rest. I'm picturing, dare I say it, Clemens in '86.

Either someone will step up and take the closer role or Theo's gonna pull the trigger on a trade.

I think you wil see Pineiro step in and give it a shot. When he blows a couple saves Theo will make a deal.

For those saying trade: any guesses as to who? I can't think of anyone I'd give up much for or that are on the block yet.
