Do you guys that leave your boats in a slip paint the bottom every year? Mine looks pretty good but I was thinking of tossing a coat on there before it goes in..but it only has one season on it.

i did mine every two years and it stayed in a slip all winter.

If you used something like a Micron extra that is meant to be able to last a few years, then all you have to do is pressure wash to activate it again before you drop it back in the water. Usually ya have to touch it up a bit here and there.
I think the regular bottom paint has to get a new coat each year after sitting out all winter.

My boat sits in the water from at least May till October as it did this past season. I have used the cheapest West Marine bottom paint for every year I can remember and usually just spot-paint wherever needs it unless it has been 2-3 years and then I do the whole bottom over for the small money it costs.

As I did the entire bottom last season, this season I will just spot paint where it needs it and be done with it.

For the new boat I'll be going all out and priming then finding a bottom paint that will last many seasons and I'll have a "contrasting" color underneath that will tell me when it is time to spot paint or repaint all together, something like the Vivid-Petit that I see ads for all the time.

Use ablative. Spend the extra dough.

Hard paints chip and flake like hell if they aren't put on PERFECTLY!

If you used an ablative you may or may not need to repaint it, depends on how much paint has worn off. If you used "regular" bottom paint, definately repaint it.

Ablative usually needs a repaint. Especially if you power washed at the end of the year.

Saw the PM Bryan, thanks....I did use alblative last season..first I washed the boat then lightly ssnded the bottom and then washed the whole thing with an alcohol...then I put two coats of paint..seemed to work well as I had no problems and the boat came out as clean as it went in..I know the stuff I used was supposed to "wash %$%$%$%$ as the season progressed...anyway, it doesnt take long to hit the bottom again this spring so I will do it anyway

Diffrent colors hold up better with less growth. Out of the 100 boats I painted last spring and hauled this fall the black bottoms were the best. Green was the worst. I'm switching the color on my boat to black from green... Blue was ok... the darker the beter... white sucked...

I've got 5 seasons on intralux ACT. All I've done is touch up every year.
