Hit the beach yesterday 45 minutes before dead low in search of quahogs. 1 hour later, 70 necks/cherrystones and 40 bulls. As well as a 1/2 peck of oysters. To top it off, I found an arrowhead.

I just shucked the bulls for the chowder. Starting on the cherrystones for clam casino and will wait on the necks/oysters till I pop my first beer.

Made the cocktail sauce yesterday and had a few on the half shell. Man, habenero peppers are a great addition to my secret cocktail sauce.

Yesterday's tide was a fantastic. I dug w/a scratch rake and my buddy picked the oysters. What a fun way to spend a winter afternoon. Four people are coming over for an afternoon of shellfish, cocktails and brew.

Wow that's great. I'd love to do winter clamming. I've got to get that on the list of things to do someday.

And the arrowhead... neat.

My gut is full, my head is a little light. What a great feed.

Time for bed, well maybe after my next glass of port.

It is the best.

Went to Pamet in Truro for the late afternoon tide, starting to get a little tough but got about 20 oysters and a half basket of cherrystones.

Being a good(?) Catholic, we are saving them for the first no meat day of Lent, this Wed. I believe, after the ashes.

Hey those oysters in Truro wash down the beach from Wellfleet? There used to be a chit load of clams in Eastham north of First Encounter until my little brother and I dug em all up in the 50's and 60's.:humpty:

Anyone read the shellfishing article in OTW? I used to eat razor clams on a dare on the flats out toward the target ship in the bay. We'd, my buddies and I, would wander around durng the day, get hungry, and go after them. Stick your index and middle fingers in the sand real quick about two inches away from the football shaped water filled divot that marked thier spot. Hit the clam from the side and dig on the other side and pull them out. You had to stick your fingers in quick or you'd be bleeding bigtime.:humpty:

a few years back my roomie went steamer digging out on the cape.

he served me up a batch and for the rest of the evening i couldn't stop pooping sand. (ouch).

A tad hungover this am. I have a thing for good port wine, I can't have just one or two or three.
I brought 2 gallons of Chowder to work today. It was gone by 11:30.
Heating up another dinner of chowder and sauted littlenecks in garlic, chianti, basil and ex virg olive oil.
I love New England!
