Anyone using these williamson jigs for cod? I heard you could use less weight due to their profile. I'd like to try them this year.

Any preference to the abyss or the benthos? This one pictured is the abyss.

I have tried Tube Teasers that people say helps,, (Jig got COD, never the teaser)

I have tried a couple Jigs that had more of a flat shape, and one that was almost round. (I have seen them in On the Water magazine) Don't know there names. I had a lot more of the hooks catching the line if you go down to fast.

Not sure if the jig has as much to do with it as the action. I do find I can run a smaller jig and get the same results.

Ive used the abyss and like them a lot. There is another type of jig that is even better than those but forget the name of it. When I get the name I'll pm you. We use them on the wrecks SE of Nantucket.

They look sweet, but I would be wary of the eyelets getting mangled if you are bounding on hard bottom. Sometimes when this happens the fish can gain some leverage on the hook and pop it free.

ive havent got any cod on them
but a bunch of big pollock.

they work really well squidding. i added a 10/0 gama livebait hook to the bottom eyelet, cause i felt the jig was lacking without a bottom hook.

Piece of rebar 20 to 32oz from any construction job site, white or silver rattle can and a 9-10/0 treble works just as good as most jigs, really. Not too much light at 280 to 320Ft. Of course if you have "clients" onboard they sometimes may think your just a cheapo.

Remember, you're only allowed two hooks while codfishing.

Good for pollocks and cods in the eastern Atlantic too !
We can get the around $6 (5 €) apiece, which is a nice price compared to Japanese fancies (Duel Aile Metal and such...).

A nice one to consider is the River2sea (Australian ?) Sea Rock if you can get them in your area...

We were also quite succesful with some kind of shads with heavy jig heads, like the flashmer "supershad", pollocks up to 20 lbs...
But no cod this year (winter too mild ???)
