View Full Version : New ferry boat arrives... Mr. Sandman 02-24-2007, 04:25 PM replacing the ol Islander http://www.mvtimes.com/ Slipknot 02-24-2007, 08:18 PM I made many trips over and back on that Islander, I wonder if it will become an artificial reef or something now. Jim, what does it cost to bring a truck over now? Mr. Sandman 02-24-2007, 09:51 PM I'd love to see it as a reef but there are too many environmental whackos here to let that happen. This region could use a good art. reef program like NJ and FL have...I think they will use it as a spare boat for a while. It is pretty tired. I wonder how many trips it made across the sound? The rates vary during the season and if you are a local and make round trips from the island. It is still a nightmare in the summer though. I keep a truck on the mainland year round to avoid the hassle if I need to do something on the spur of the moment...like to to plugfest. In the summer for a full size truck it is about (round trip) $130...in the winter about 75...nantucket is a lot worse.... 360 in the summer and about 230 in the winter...but since you can't get a reservation in the summer it really doesn't matter. It costs about 500 bucks/year for me to keep a spare vehicle on the mainland...The wife likes it to go shopping on the cape every couple months. I think I put about 2000 miles/yr on my off island truck but it seems worth it to me. Everyone has their own way to work the system. I am not a huge fan of the ferry system they have here but it is reliable and gets the job done. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
