As an aside, a US Marine friend of our was nearly killed in Iraq at the start of the war. He was fortunate enough to see his daughter be born via videoconference from a bed in Germany. I believe he's done three tours already.

We went to his daughter's birthday party a few months ago with his entire family and I can't remember his name coming up a single time.

THAT is an amazing story Spence. Thanks for posting that. Real shame that had to happen.

Thank you Ty for the service you gave to your country!

For those of you too young to remember, a lot of us came home from the "land of the yellow man" in the 60's in the same condition.
No minimizing the wounds or the horror of this Marine. Just don't want anyone to forget, Nam.

Semper Fi Marine!!!

I'd wager most with those wounds in the 1960's wouldn't have made it home. The front line medical technology for severe head trauma is pretty remarkable. Within a few hours of an injury they'll have part of your skull cut off to let the brain swell.

Did anyone else see the Woodruff segment last night on Hardball? It was pretty amazing.

That's a very sad story and picture. My feelings cannot be expressed in a few words on this site. War is a necessay evil. It's a shame that good people have to pay the price to fight it. I wish them the very best of everything. p.s. Spence... I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Hope he makes it home safely. As for him not being mentioned at his daughter's birthday.....It may be their way of dealing with the pain of his absence.

I assumed, but it was a bit surprising. He's a friend of my wifes...but a friend none the less. I believe he's going to stay in Kuwait for the rest of this tour...
