Its never about talent, its all about marketing and entertainment. American Idol is nothing new. I struggled with this and have seen it wear out dozens of extremely talented people. I'm not saying all popular musicians are not talented. The reality is you can take an average singer, with the right marketing and backing and create the next Madonna.
