Interesting cut on the Darter, and i love the colors.. Have you Swum that one yet? numbskull 03-18-2007, 04:41 PM George, Very Nice.. you always build a Great Looking Plug. Interesting cut on the Darter, and i love the colors.. Have you Swum that one yet? Yep. It's OK, but nothing like Eddy's. I can make it roll, but only at retrieve speeds I wouldn't use. The reason I built it was to test out an idea someone else posted showing a scooped lip. Can't say it made much difference on this plug. Then again, there is a lot about darters I don't understand. I've built plenty of good ones, but only by copying someone else's (Pinchney's) design. Maybe next winter. ProfessorM 03-18-2007, 05:10 PM Love those jointed ones George. The others are beautiful too. Nice Job. gone fishin 03-18-2007, 05:33 PM Love the jointeds - you do awsome work. You might want to extend the slope on the darter farther back, I send mine at least 1/2 way up to about 2/3 back... Also scoop the lip up to the middle of the face. I do mine on a belt sander. numbskull 03-19-2007, 11:28 AM If you play with the darter more... Thanks. I was thinking along the same lines, sorta like a bottle darter without the bottle shape. If you've got a picture please feel free to post it, I'm interested to learn you've got the idea to work. I've always used darters in moving water, but at the end of last year I started experimenting with them in still water, using a slow retrieve and small twitches of the rod tip. Some of them (the older style Gibbs in particular) look very appealing fished like this.......kind of like a needlefish that will dive and swim a bit. I'm also intrigued by the wide variety of freshwater darters sold over the years. I suspect it is a plug design that hasn't been developed very much in saltwater and about which there is still much to be discovered. numbskull 03-19-2007, 11:34 AM Found it http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripertalk/attachment.php?attachmentid=20064&d=1172194227 Those are the ones that got me interested. Your other plugs looked so serious I was pretty sure your darters were good too. Thanks for showing them, they'll help alot. vineyardblues 03-19-2007, 11:52 AM George, would you have an x-ray of this lure? vb numbskull 03-19-2007, 01:26 PM George, would you have an x-ray of this lure? vb No, but I think Flap has a similar plug. PM him and check, if he's got it I can probably get an xray. ProfessorM 03-20-2007, 09:28 AM George, would you have an x-ray of this lure? vb Don't be showing him that plug.:smash: There is no weight that I can see. Don't you remember you gave me a beater. I made several that were sealed last week. I weighted them a few different ways. Mine are AYC. I think they were pine, light feel. I will tell you how they work if i ever finish them. Don't be trying that plug you will hurt yourself:gu: vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
