View Full Version : With Spring comes Fishing, with Fishing comes Striper Heaven
JohnR 03-21-2007, 07:57 AM So what slice of Striper Heaven are you going to try find this year?
I want to spend some time learning some Islands, mainly the Elizabeths and Fishers.
What about you? What would you like to see & learn differently this year?
BigFish 03-21-2007, 08:00 AM I am looking to carve a slice that weighs 40 pounds or more!
I would like to fish Rhody a bit more, and of course monthly trips to a certain boulder encrusted island is a must!:bounce:
Rockport24 03-21-2007, 08:06 AM well, as John knows, I'd like to experience a certain island in the Elizabeths, but for the majority of the season, I'm going to concentrate of putting in the time and really learning my local spots and hopefully catching some large in the process!
The Dad Fisherman 03-21-2007, 08:13 AM May be heading to Martha's Vineyard for the 1st time.
Don't need as big of a slice as Larry needs....just a 30 pound slice for me would be nice.
also want to really dig in and fine some hidden nooks and crannies up along Cape Ann
BillyBlanks 03-21-2007, 08:25 AM I'd like to learn the Boston Harbor Islands. I've lived in the city for a couple years, but haven't taken much time to go out there. Could use a 40lb slice myself Bigs. 43lber was my biggest and that was years ago.
Slingah 03-21-2007, 08:28 AM I like to see more decent fish locally........spend some time at the canal....and fish the back more again...
Mike P 03-21-2007, 08:40 AM I want to discover an undiscovered area of the Canal and unlock its secrets.
Wish me luck :rotf3:
RIJIMMY 03-21-2007, 09:03 AM I am looking to get better this year. Better = more quality fish consistently. Last year, more time on the water did not equal more fish, so I am doing something wrong. I need to figure out what and fix it. My goal is to break 30lbs and to increase the average size of my catch.
Wish me luck too.
reelecstasy 03-21-2007, 09:03 AM Gonna concentrate on a certain road, locally. I plan to fish that stretch hard.
Early morning sight fishing and open beach wading....
JohnR 03-21-2007, 09:12 AM Gonna concentrate on a certain road, locally. I plan to fish that stretch hard.
It's a beautiful avenue
reelecstasy 03-21-2007, 09:16 AM You better show up! ( I knew you would pick up on that one ) ;)
since i am basically living in boston now(unless i get a job with the dunes club) i will be learning some new spots around hull and also the N. Shore. hope to meet up with reelecstasy and do some damage :nailem:
RIROCKHOUND 03-21-2007, 09:23 AM bart FYI from what I hear, DC is long hours and not a lot of green...
Slingah 03-21-2007, 09:25 AM It's a beautiful avenue
:eyes:
striprman 03-21-2007, 09:30 AM Maybe I'll finally catch "the one that got away"
reelecstasy 03-21-2007, 09:30 AM Slingah, come to the dark side:vamp:
MarshCappa 03-21-2007, 09:32 AM Even though I bought a small 16' Carolina Skiff this year I don't want to totally give up on surf casting. I love hitting the local spots in my area and this year I'd love to hit some RI spots. The problem with that is I'm usually visiting relatives and it's hard to get away. My Uncle said he wants to start surfcasting this year so maybe I'll get out with him. Otherwise I'll be exporing and hitting Duxbury bay and my local waters with my skiff seeking the large and enjoying the outdoors.
RIJIMMY 03-21-2007, 09:33 AM bart FYI from what I hear, DC is long hours and not a lot of green...
I think there are some "perks".......unlimited access?
Back Beach 03-21-2007, 09:34 AM Hopefully make my first Cutty trip w/Tlap and Krispy. Can I say Cutty?
Other than that, business as usual. Child #2 coming in late June so that will probably be the end of my season.
RIROCKHOUND 03-21-2007, 09:36 AM RIJ assuming you get time off to fish!
I think there are some "perks".......unlimited access?
free living too. but like bryan said i don't think there is much money to be had. we'll see what happens tho, gonna be tough to not fish that area this season...
StriperSniper 03-21-2007, 09:45 AM I would like to see my 12 yr old son land his first over 30#, in the past 2 seasons he's already got 105 fish between 20-30 under his belt.As for learning,35 years into this i still learn something new on every trip.Last season threw everything i thought i knew right out the window.I'm hoping for more of that.
NIGHT STRIKES 03-21-2007, 09:55 AM Looking forward to the Spring "Bunker Run" along the Jersey Shore
if its anything like the comeback of this type of Bass Fishing last year we are in for another treat... Word is that schools of Adult Bunker are already showing up or did they ever leave ?
Hooked myself up with a big meat stick this year - so I am ready for live-lining and deadhead fishing for Large....
But for the most part will still be plugging (with big pencils and poppers) looking for that explosion on the surface as always...
Good Luck Everyone This Spring....
PaulS 03-21-2007, 10:27 AM I'm hoping someone takes me to cuttyhunk!
In The Surf 03-21-2007, 10:40 AM I would also like to make it to Cutty, MV as a bonus after I make it to Cutty.
reelecstasy 03-21-2007, 11:07 AM I have to make it to Cutty at some point as well. I have another 2 weeks on the Vineyard this year too!
wheresmy50 03-21-2007, 11:15 AM Fishing smarter, and breaking 40 pounds.
Finaddict 03-21-2007, 11:18 AM Back to the magical island, also hoping to get over to BI and even out to Montauk once or twice this year ... as it's been quite a few, almost 15 since I was there last and have had too many invites not to go, but with family and work, makes it tough.
Also spend more time on the local rocks and beaches, as the ones who do the best typically are those who stay in one specific area and learn it right ... and I feel there's a bunch of unearthing I can do close to home.
Jimbo 03-21-2007, 11:41 AM Never caught a keeper from the shore in NJ, so it would be my goal and with a homemade plug.
Rick Ackley 03-21-2007, 11:51 AM Sort of getting sick of tossing to the same rocks in the Ha'ba' weekend after weekend due to wind or water. If I can manage a trip when it's calm, venturing to outer islands and prospect some different waters.
striperman36 03-21-2007, 08:46 PM More time in the boat. I will have to get up earlier or go to sleep later.
0000 thru 1200 on the water
tattoobob 03-21-2007, 09:07 PM For me it is BI Nothing new just try to get out as much as I can with out losing my job and keeping the wife happy,
Rockport24 03-21-2007, 09:28 PM For me it is BI Nothing new just try to get out as much as I can with out losing my job and keeping the wife happy,
ain't that the truth Bob! I've got to work on acheiving the proper "balance" I want to get out a hellava lot more this year.
Fish_Eye 03-22-2007, 03:52 AM I hope to hit the striper super highway in about three weeks and chronicle their travels from NJ to ME...and you just might see it on-line.
reebok 03-22-2007, 06:27 AM Block Island for me again. SE corner and Clay Head in particular. And certain areas in South County.
RIROCKHOUND 03-22-2007, 06:36 AM If I told you guys I'd have to kill you.....
:D
Rockfish9 03-22-2007, 06:48 AM Buisnes as usual, year 35 of stomping the Merrimack river basin as far north as Rye NH as far south as the Essex river.(Ma). but mostly working the water inbetween, from the surf in May and October the rest of the season by boat.. still looking to find something over 30lbs on the fly rod....
Flaptail 03-22-2007, 07:20 AM I am already there. On the west end of my domain things are perfect but the east end would be if the bait just would come ashore this year. I gave up hunting the "big one" and just learned to enjoy what I have and the chance to be where I am.
afterhours 03-22-2007, 07:34 AM looking forward to all of it! local, not so local, fischers, and that special island more than a few times.....
Goose 03-22-2007, 08:55 AM Hopefully with a little more home work I plan on surf fishing Know man's;)mid summer. Boat wise, gonna concentrate on deep humps when the water warms up, weather permitting. There's so much to learn and try closer to home but often its the hunt not so much the kill.
I gave up hunting the "big one"
Through an extended period of time I heard you say that several times and what that tells me is that in your subconscious your still after the Big One. Its ok man theres treatment for that...lol
MrHunters 03-22-2007, 09:16 AM also want to really dig in and fine some hidden nooks and crannies up along Cape Ann
:hidin:

im also looking to increase the quality of fish I catch.:tooth:
I'd like to learn a few more styles of fishing. There is so much I havent tried yet.

Sounds good but really is a dangerous place to go ashore Noman's is and having worked the last couple years with the USFWS on Monomoy and Nomans 15 year management plan review there will be people out there from that agency this coming year.
Only minimal landing sites and strong tides plus the shark thing and that is no bs. Better off casting from the boat off of the north side rip at mid island.
Goose 03-22-2007, 09:30 AM Thanks for the heads up, looks like plan B is good or better. See the edited part the 1st post.:hee:
GBOUTDOORS 03-22-2007, 10:10 AM Tie a line to the back of Goose's boat and have him tow me to all his hot spots then cut the line and sneak off to my spots:soon: I hope to spend A LOT more nights across the bay with eels and some good friends. Work on a fifty and sixty this year. NOMANS:buds:
Steve K 03-22-2007, 10:22 AM Looking to fish closer to home in order to fish more.
Rappin Mikey 03-22-2007, 11:14 AM I don't care where I do it, but I want to break 30# on top water from the shore this year. Came pretty close the last couple of years (27,28), and I lost a honker in the wash last year on a pencil that must have been in the over 30 class. I think this year I'll do it.
InTheHole 03-22-2007, 11:50 AM I want to try some place I haven't fished before. I am going to venture over towards the Hooter and do some exploring. I have been told more than once that you can find anything from large fluke to large mako's in that area.
Sluggoslinger 03-22-2007, 01:14 PM I'd like to try and fly fish the flats near me, get out more since I now have some work in the same town as my boat. Catch a tuna even if its a rat.
I also want to fish a couple nights on some south side spots that i've wanted to try since last year.
Catch a 40+ lb fish...
Rick Ackley 03-22-2007, 01:32 PM I just went outside, except for the stiff breeze it is absolutely a nice day.
Had thoughts of uncovering the vessel last week, didn't do it, but I shall on Saturday. Blow out the leaves and such, and maybe go for a test float. Drag a line in the process.
macojoe 03-22-2007, 04:01 PM Look for a new fishing spot, since Vinyard sound will be junk after all them draggers are dome with it! :realmad:
