Does anyone know where I can get some real small surfster lips for a 3 - 4 inch plug? The smallest lips I have right now are the Lefty and the .5 pikie but I still need something smaller. Thanks

Thanks justplugit 03-22-2007, 11:12 AM NJ Tackle has a lip for that size plug or you can make your own out of a Size #3 spinnner blade. massmike 03-22-2007, 06:58 PM I've tried small surfster lips on a 3.5" floating swimmer and the results we're not great. I went back to a lefty #1 and it swims great. Seems like surfster has a surface area that's just too small --maybe on a tiny (2-3 in.) swimmer the results would be better... GattaFish 03-22-2007, 10:01 PM I like the Lefty 1 on a plug exactly that size,,,,,, works great,,, Have to agree with MassMike on the small surfster for a plug that size,,,, Woodbuster 03-22-2007, 10:04 PM The lefty seems to pull the small stuff down deep even with a slow retrieve. It still swims great but I'd like to make a few that stay on top. Some old plugs I've seen had real small surfster type lips that I cant seem to find. NJ tackle is out of stock on the small surfster lip. Woodbuster 03-22-2007, 10:37 PM Ooops! I should have checked again before I posted. NJ Tackle has them in now so I just ordered some up. I'll post a picture of the little critters when I get them done. Thanks! Jigman 03-23-2007, 06:23 AM If the surfster lip does not do what you want, try as JPI suggested, use a colorado blade. Get one about as wide as the plug for a good fit. Will work on top well. Jigman Woodbuster 03-23-2007, 07:00 AM Thanks, I'll give that a try BassAssasin 03-23-2007, 07:24 AM I have made several 3.5 - 4" surfsters modeled after the original ccbc 7200 series and they work well. Troublemaker lures also used to make a small one that worked well. I don't remember the exact length of the original ccbc but it was around 4". The lips that NJT has will work on that size plug. Hilo_Kawika 03-24-2007, 01:36 PM You might try aluminum angle for some lips. The 1" wide stuff is fairly thin, very easy to cut with snips and/or lightweight saw and sands/files very easily. And it's still quite stiff... vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
