View Full Version : Traffic ticket while not in country
Saltheart 03-27-2007, 09:12 PM I got to go to court thursday to argue a traffic ticket I got feb 7. Since I was in China until feb 14 and my car was in the driveway for those 3 weeks , , I know its not mine. I hope the passport stamp is sufficient to get the judge to void the ticket. pain in the ass to have to appear in Providence on a workday morning!! :(
MakoMike 03-28-2007, 08:21 AM I had a similar thing a couple of years ago. A Hertz rental car got a ticket in NYC and hertz told NYC that I had rented the car. I had rented the car but returned it at JFK and I was in London at the time the ticket was issued. Real PITA to straighten out!
HighTide 03-28-2007, 02:24 PM Got an overdue ticket notice from Springfield last year on a plate I turned in back in 2001. 'Course it came on a friday so i got to stew over it all weekend. I managed to find my plate return receipt and got it straightened out on Monday morning.
Uncle Matt 03-28-2007, 03:31 PM Back in the 80's my parents had a late night visit from some troopers. As I freaked out, planned an alibi and flushed my weed I learned they were interested in a vehicle my family had sold several years prior. Whomever had our old vehicle used it during the commission of a crime. All I remember is my father, a bank executive, standing there in his white t-shirt and boxer shorts. One look at him and I think they realized he is no criminal!
Mixups happen. Saltheart go into court and state your case. Remember to remain calm and try not to loose your cool. I hope your successful and I wish you luck.

Wow, I didn't know that stuff made you paranoid :hidin:
UserRemoved1 03-28-2007, 04:34 PM Damn shame ya flushed it :jester:
Saltheart 03-29-2007, 09:23 AM I went in and said I was out of the country and had proof but she didn't even look at it. The ticket was for an Acura and I drive a Chevy blazer. She dismissed the ticket. kind of an entertaining morning as it was my first time in traffic court. It was the room you see on TV sometimes with frank caprio on the program Court in Providence (or something like that).
Uncle Matt 03-29-2007, 09:47 AM Congrats. Even with the inconvenience I'm glad everything worked out for you.
chris L 03-29-2007, 03:00 PM The ticket was for an Acura and I drive a Chevy blazer.
big difference in those 2 cars . was the acura at least even white ?
some times the system has a break down . I got summons to go to court back in 1979 for something I supposedly did . I was in europe from 1978 thru 1981 . They put out a bench warrent for my arrest . go to my mothers house and she has a hell of a time convincing them I wasnt in the country . She called my dad who straightened it out ( retired state trooper ) . He called me to let me know that he saved me from years in jail . I was like confused . I still had to go to court with my dd 214 . idiot clerks !
Uncle Matt 03-29-2007, 09:34 PM Can't just say idiot clerks Chris. Your starting to sound jaded. have you been hanging out with Bigfish Larry?
The clerks are only as good as the information they are given. Imagine being in their shoes day in and day out hearing every excuse in the book. But things worked out didn't they? The cogs of justice move slowly. Roll with the punches and keep your chin up. Good things usually happen to good people.
