Raider Ronnie 03-30-2007, 07:33 PM Tom, Make sure you know if you want H or I beam ! I'm going to guess you will put a trolley on the beam for a hoist . Some trolleys take H beams. I have a 30ft 5in h beam up in my garage that has a 3/4 horse electric hoist on it, it's nice when I need to lift anything and to be able to roll it in either direction. quick decision 03-31-2007, 09:28 PM Grant Steel Co (781) 767-0505 GRANTSTEEL.NET 2 Mear Rd, Holbrook, MA 02343 Driving directions I have used them before, they are good. Though you might be making a boom for your boat to haul in the BIG one. EricW 04-03-2007, 05:49 PM I've bought some steel from Lowell iron and steel in you guessed it Lowell. It is on Tanner street. Here is what google found. 50 Tanner St. Lowell, MA 01852 Phone: 978-458-8476 Fax: 978-459-6296 Raider Ronnie 04-03-2007, 06:30 PM [QUOTE=Fish On;480259]Turn an H on it's side and it's an I! lol Just kidding I'm sure there are differences. An H beam has square 90 degree edges An I bean has angled edges ! thicker towards the center and tapering in thickness towards the outside! beamie 04-03-2007, 08:12 PM Depending on your intentions an I beam is the better choice if your using a trolley for a chain hoist. You can use an H but most trolleys at least the ones I am familiar with have angled wheels made to ride to taper of an I beam vice an H. I installed an 24 foot run for a hoist about 6 years ago using an H instead of an I, it works but I rather the I but I had H at the time. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
