Anybody else catch the stench from the SEMASS fire in Rochester? I'm an easy 15 - 20 miles away but the south westerly made it seem like it was next door.

"It was kind of like a little explosion," Richard Adams, who works at the plant, told Fox-TV. "There was a propane tank that probably went through the shredder and started to engulf into flames."

4 Alarms? Do they sleep when they should be watching the intake stream?

I live less than a mile form Semass. Sometimes they rock the house and blowout windows on county rd.
Semass do not call for help till a fire is out of controol usually 45-60 min .
When Wareham and Rochester show up it is usually fully ingulfed in flames.

One of the guys I worked with, used to work there (10+ years ago). he was a "picker" (up to his neck in garbage). He had a boiler engineers licence and a crane licence. He told me the "blast door" would fly a quarter mile.

Started in the shredder ( possible propane tank but it could have been anything ) anti-stink vents sucked fire into the induced draft fan and things went down hill quickly from there. Looks like they will be off line for quite some time. Bright side...no one hurt! 2nd hand info.
