I heard it on the radio this afternoon. I will bet the Berkley people are nervous. A company that purchases another that big usually takes advantage of cutting human resources at once to improve the bottom line. Berkley being huge will take a big hit. I hope they leave Penn and Abu alone.

Interesting ...

... someone commented the other day that there will only be a few tackle companies left ... and now it's coming true ... wait and see what happens with WC Bradley -- the owners of Zebco, Martin, Van Staal, Quantum ... etc. very interesting ...

... also in respect to Jarden, I believe that Jarden tends to let its subsidiary companies pretty much manage themselves ... of course they have to pay up to the big man ... but what makes me believe this is that a buddy of mine started a company making water filters called clearflow, he was approached by Sunbeam - they are a Jarden company headquartered in Florida ... (he wound up selling to Clorox, who owns Brita)and he never mentioned that they were owned by a company in Rye, NY ... which I was never aware of when I grew up in a coastal town not more than 10 miles up the CT coast ... either it's new or it has been quiet ... they also own Coleman, which I believe is headquarted in the Midwest somewhere ...

It will be something to watch and maybe opportunities too ... but I hope the guys who rep Pure products ... especially Mike our local rep will be okay. We should ensure that they are aware of the good work he does, as every tackle shop I know that deals with him has nothing but good things to say.
