I know we have covered this before on a couple of occassions, but was hoping you guys could point me in the direction of some good waterproof digital cameras to consider.

Thanks

Pentax Optio W20. I bought one but haven't had the stones to put it under water yet. Takes excellent photos though. Good luck.

All the Pentax Optios are good choices. A few of my friends have these;

Pentax W-10
Pentax Optio WPI
Pentax 7.1 megapixel Optio W20

I hear the W20 is the best for the money, will pick one up myself shortly.

Be careful... a lot of the reviews for the Pentax Optio W20 and Olympus 720 said the LCD viewers were useless in direct sunlight. Since they don't also have optical viewers you are stuck when that happens.

The reviews must have been right, because the next generation just released (Optio W30 and Olympus 770) are both touting better LCD viewers that work well in direct bright sunlight.

So, if you get a Pentax or Olumpus, make sure you get one of the new ones just released. They are also more drop proof and waterproof than the earlier ones.

I got an Optio WP - shot the lure videos for my website with it....It does good work - good for family photos too - the rechargable battery lasts a long time..

I just purchased this camera:http://www.sealife-cameras.com/cameras/dc600.html

Very good quality as a land camera. I have not taken any pics below the surface, however, the housing is rated to 200ft.

This is good info ... thanks ... if what is said about the W20, might be better to look at the W30, as it's not much more (although the W20 is an easy purchase) ... the Sealife looks excellent, but looks a little bulky to hold in waders, where the W20 or W30 can easily slide in a pouch pocket or plug bag pocket ... I will have to check all three out ... Thanks again

i use a olympus 720sw.

it only takes so-so pics out of the water, especially in bright sun.

but underwater it works great. here are some shots i shot last month:

here's some underwater video i took last month*:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4229357145654048337&hl=en

the website compresses the video, so resolution looks crappy. if you watch the video on a nice TV at full res its pretty sick.

*all pics and video were taken in the upper narragansett bay at my secret spot, let me know if you figure it out.

I use the olympus 720 too. So far so good for my needs. It's been in rain and snow, nothing underwater yet. Has the typical downfalls of small-lense cameras. I still love it for the waterproof/ shockproof specs. I drowned 2 digitals before this one.

I used to own one before I cracked the lcd. :af: and it was a nice auto camera. I had taken underwater shots that came out pretty good overall. It is a nice compact camera that you don't have to worry about getting wet or droping it in the sand. Just spray it down with fresh water and wipe dry.

FYI - Be careful of the above linked company they have a lot of complaints for their selling practices and are not in good standing with the NY BBB. Never used them but did look them up when I originally bought and steer clear.
