hey guys, I'm trying to plan to take some time off in May, in your opinions, whats a good week to take off for a fishing bender around these parts in the persuit of large? Maybe third week of may? Or should I just wait until June?

In my experience, we do not see the first big fish until the first week in June, although I did get my first keeper on Maay 31st last year. So if I was you I would take the last coupla days of May and the first few days of June :usd:

Now some guys are gonna chime in here and claim they are catching large in mid-May but I that has not happened for me where I fish.

I am planing on taking Fridays off in June and September... :bo:

I fish the Merrimac River area. Good mackerel should be around at that time and stripers should be in the mouth of the river. You may need a boat for the mackerel. I typically run out early in the morning and load up on mackerel and then fish them in the mouth of the river.

TDF, that is a very good idea....

In all my years of keeping a fishing journal (40+), anytime around June 10 is great for a push of big stripers in the Plum Island/Gloucester area.

i would road trip...but i also had a keeper first week of june last year locally...

that also brings up a good point for me...this year will be my first keeping a fishing log...i have said taht for the last few years but i really think it would be invaluable information in the long term...i always think i will remember certain conditions on certain dates/tides/weather conditions...and that seems to fade by the time next season rolls around...

June would be your best bet, anywhere in New England

I would say the 1st two weeks in June are best for big fish up here at Plum Island in the Merrimac River!!!
It could be later in the month, depending on if we get some more big rain storms!!!
Weather will be a factor!!! A stretch of warm weather would help the run begin early!!!
