View Full Version : What's new in fishing?
JohnR 04-24-2007, 01:36 PM Maybe I'm getting a little cantankerous myself but this winter and spring I didn't see much NEW stuff that I just had to have. Sure, there was some nice new plugs around, and some pretty stuff like some sweet custom rods, but I can't think of anything NEW. Nothing revolutionary and not even much evolutionary.
What out there do you consider really new? What evolutions out there seem worthy of exploration? Am I just becoming a jaded & cantankerous G.O.Ph. ?
Rockport24 04-24-2007, 01:39 PM I'm waiting for the live eel that never dies!!! would somebody please invent it?

Bishop169 04-24-2007, 01:56 PM I think I may have to buy my son one of those rocket fishing rod things only way I will get him to go out :lossinit:
Rockport24 04-24-2007, 02:14 PM on a serious note, I gotta agree with John, no real revolutionary stuff out there...... it would be cool if somebody came out with a spinning reel that could be dunked like a VS without a VS price...
since I'm still relatively new to the sport, I am still aquiring new stuff that I've never used before so it's enough to keep me excited. For example, I just got all excited about making my "keep cool eel bucket"
Saltheart 04-24-2007, 02:48 PM I would say that this years big development for the high tech fisaherman is the in car GPS proliferation. Sure GPS has been around a long time but thgis year it started to become widely used in cars.
If you can use a computer , you can go to areal photography site , get coodinates and drive to fishing spots using the GPS to guide you. This allows you to 'scout" spots while at home. Its a powerful tool in the hands of a good fisherman.
striperjerk1 04-24-2007, 03:18 PM I think the nor, easter jacket by aquaskinz is the newest and best thought out new item .
stripersnipr 04-24-2007, 03:58 PM John's right. I have nothing "new" to try this year, despite a long winter of fishing shows and internet shopping. Have we finally perfected our art?
I have never seen a 10 inch jerk bait that is impregnated with bunker oil before. :tooth: Nor have i ever seen a jerk bait that is round and the same width of a bullet head either :D
Skitterpop 04-24-2007, 04:24 PM Saw a Flock of Seagulls around a herring run in Massachusetts
Going to swim some pikies and dannys in the back bays and tidal rivers leading to runs.... a 30 would be nice :smokin:

can you make a ribbon tail that is wicked tough but flutters sexy :boots: maybe thru wired?

The future is now. :hihi:

I don't think so. Maybe its just because I have a lot of fishing stuff that I'm more selective :tooth:

I had plenty of Ledrunner rubba stank-impregnated with bunker oil :hee:

When my girlfriend wakes up in the morning she has a Flock of Seagulls hairdo.http://www.chickslovethecar.com/images/smileys/laugh.gif
Goose 04-24-2007, 05:05 PM Not sure how long they've been around but I recently picked up new Storm Line bibs, extra padding on the knee's.. nice price too.
Redsoxticket 04-24-2007, 06:45 PM I was content with only a hook, line and sinker then came S-B.com and $$$ worth of equipment later. If I need to buy new stuff without fully using or losing what I have then shame on me.
However, I could not resist the new Yo-Zuri crystal minnow magnum, 6.5" length,1 3/8 oz.
Swimmer 04-25-2007, 05:46 AM Speaking of the Skinz products, Kadir came into the Red Top while I was with Don Stromeyer the other day to show Don his product line. I think we'll see the Aqua Skinz in the Red Top shortly.
Rockport24 04-25-2007, 08:42 AM speaking of skinz, is the new stuff in stores yet?
fishsmith 04-25-2007, 09:34 AM They're not new or revolutionary, but I think the Storm baits have made catching a bass on a lure as easy as it gets.
mosholu 04-25-2007, 09:40 AM It would be great if someone could figure out how to make a lighter pair of Korkers!

You won't ever find that unfortunatley b/c there are too many idiots (like me :hee: ) that are willing to pay for it.
ThrowingTimber 04-25-2007, 12:21 PM Nope nothing exciting. I'm psyched about a white Lami pool cue that I'm getting acid wrapped and is going to have an Avet on it, its going to be my jiggin stick  Mike Joyce sent me a few pics of it and I cant wait to throw a 2lb korker with it to test it out.... :laugha:
the pt. jude tin that lil snake one has me excited about tossing it where like 12 of us all hooked up that night you came to the beach house john..
Aside from that I've pretty much gone through my G.A.S phase.. gear acquisition syndrome. I'm more concerned with traveling/ making arrangements for fishing vacations really. :humpty:
Candi wants me to get a boat but I just cant do it... not yet.. shes trying to talk me into it though. I want something very spartan cc, twin screw, good radius.. She wants a couch that floats so she can tan.... I'm just going to ignore her for a few more years before I give in..... and get the utilitarian cc. :)
fishpoopoo 04-25-2007, 12:25 PM Sadly, the specter of $4.00/gallon gas could be the "new thing" for me during this fishing season.
Keep your eye on the hurricane weather. :(
Pt.JudeJoe 04-25-2007, 12:59 PM Although they are from the old days...they are new to this generation and a bit on the unique side too. Stripers.blues, tuna ,and fluke watch out! :bounce:
