How many of you EAT BAIT?? ....:gorez: .....:yak6:

Yes, I'm curious....

What kind and how do you prepare it?

I don't want recipes as I won't give you mine...just a generalization.

A few of my examples:

Squid:
1. Calamari style
2. Spicy-Stewed w/potatoes
3. Grilled
4. Stuffed

Mackerel:
1. Pan Fried
2. Grilled
3. Boiled
4. Roasted

Silversides:
1. Deep Fried like French Fries

EELS:
1. Stewed with potatoes
2. Butter-flied and Pan Fried

My list goes on as I'm weird bastage...but I'll let others chime in as I'm curious what and how you prepare any bait that you may consume.

Let's hear it you closet munchers!!!

P.S. ...yo Rick..........what should I do with this stuff? :D

Bled, iced, red meat cut out, and mackerel is better than fresh tuna.

I've never cooked squid, but frequently order the app when out to dinner.
I love fresh fish and Mackerel is delicious. The attached pics show us cooking the bait and fish caught on the bait.

Waste not Want not.

I have eaten sea herring sashimi.. it wasn't that bad, properly bled and chilled. I don't think I would do it again, but ya never know.

Gilly -

Why is it weird to eat calamari? Squid is delicious ... don't think I've met a lot of people who don't like it.

I will say that I don't like Atlantic mackeral. Maybe because of the strong oily taste of the red meat, maybe because I've spent a lot of time on boats and beaches cutting up putrified macks for chunk baits. I just won't touch it anymore. I'll take a nice piece of the milder Spanish Mackeral sashimi - if there's a hot cup of sake lying around.

Silversides? Heck, you'll see them offered in Chinatown supermarkets. I know a lot of eyetalian folk in the NY area who fry them up whole in olive oil and garlic. Yum.

Eels of all sizes have long been a delicacy in European and Asian cultures. I don't eat them (and crabs) any more because of their high cholesterol content.

I've seen people eat sand eels :lurk: , but have yet to witness someone happily slurp down some sand or bloodworms or dig into a mossbunker filet.

I love Squid, fried, fra-diavlo, or pan sauteed
I love Eel....used to catch'em off the peir and cook them up on the grill......If they're fresh enough they turn them selves over on the grill
Never had Silversides....But I'll munch down a mess of smelts so they should be similar.
Never had mackerel either but I would eat them

Bait....Its what's for Breakfast

I LOVE spicy calamari with lots of hot peppers. I got some take out from vinny Ts their calamari sucked no hot peppers as advertised.

I had mack sashimi one time and I couldn't eat it....
Eel in sushi is really good.

I'm sure we all eat shrimp and crab that is bait:)

uhhmmm ... no bait on the menu for me, unless you consider bloos and baby bloos as bait for stripers, shark and tunas ... then I'd be a bait eater ... but not squid, eels, crabs (occassionally down in MD), etc. for me ... oh, leg of lamb - per Jaws, yes I do eat bait. :scream:

mackerel sashimi is a big winner in my book - very good test of how good a sushi joint is, at least its my test- I also ate raw herring once...emphasis on once...go figure...Anchovies get snuck into my salads sometimes and I'm not happy about it.

Squid fried
Macks get pickled and that takes care of the oil taste

As I'm fishin I like to chew on sea clam, nice flavor same goes for squid.
Green crabs to much shell, but I'll eat the little ones alive, nice taste.
Silversides, eat'um raw.
Seaworms are naaaasTEE!
Clam neck's don't use'um don't need to eat'um.
Macks, if you don't eat'um you proably won't live that long.
All other bait must be cooked.
Just say no to>eels & pogies, all bones.
Herring never tried it, proably boney too, plus I don't trust fish that eat salad.
