View Full Version : Squid Fishing? partsjay 05-03-2007, 07:59 AM Not to sound like a moron, but I have never fished for them....can anyone point me in the right direction? Not looking for exact spots, but a general where and how? Pt.JudeJoe 05-03-2007, 08:37 AM It really can't get any more crowded....Goat Island causeway in Newport ,RI is the most popular spot. Tie a 1 oz. sinker on and about a foot above it make a loop and put a Yozuri squid jig on (you can add another one above it -( 1 foot), if you like. Pink is the most popular color. Just watch how the other fishermen jig and you will catch them. partsjay 05-03-2007, 08:49 AM Thank You for the help. bloocrab 05-04-2007, 12:59 AM It really can't get any more crowded..... :rotflmao: I've never seen a bridge with more lights underneath it, as opposed to above it. :D Hey Joe, are they going to paint the other side of the bridge to match the Ligthhouse side?...:rotfl: Pt.JudeJoe 05-04-2007, 08:09 AM Ahh yes the "squid black" shade of May. The north side is reserved for people dressed in " I went to Newport" T-shirts. As summer gets here the ink will fade like the hords who put it there .As the forsithia and lilacs come and go,as the dogwood petals disappear when the the summer breeze begins to blow, the middle of June will be the end of the squid show. zacs 05-04-2007, 11:51 AM look at Joe waxing poetic http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_32_7.gif ThrowingTimber 05-04-2007, 12:18 PM I like a slab spoon opposed to the sinker on the bottom. theres stuff out there that eats squid too you know :uhuh: Why not tip the scale in your favor. I run the slab spoon with a treble on the bottom. Up from that about a foot and a half I run my first jig. I'll usually run 2 jigs spaced about a foot and a half apart from themselves. I got a REAL nice jig from a buddy in California, thats 4 jigs tied inline with a glowing christmas tree snagger on the bottom its insane :jump: I got a 15oz jig for humbolts too... I tried telling tom we didnt have any humbolts here but he said thats the smallest one he had.. I guess his other humbolts jigs were two pounts.. :vamp: DZ 05-04-2007, 04:16 PM For all of you who (Lurkers Included) that are headed to Newport to do some squidding I have a special request and advice. Please bring a plastic bag and clean up the area you're fishing, even if it's not your litter. This is so very important as city officials get a little worked up every squid season and threaten to shut the place down to fishing when litter starts to accumulate. Make me happy, the city happy, and have a good time but please try and keep the area clean. Our access depends on it. DZ Nebe 05-04-2007, 05:56 PM Amen Dennis. My parents live a few blocks from that bridge and the point association is not too happy with all of the problems associated with 'the event' vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
