I see some of the plug makers are cutting the VMC 3X trebles to make them open eyed for adding to plugs.

What do you guys use to cut the eye? I don't want to ruin the hooks, a tool, or myself.

Anyone have any problems with the hook eye openning on fish. I use the open eyed swiash single hooks and have never had a problem.

Thanks.

I use a small bolt cutter. Works easy as pie. I am sure they open once in a while but not the norm.

Bill, if you do a search on your topic you should find a few threads over the last couple of months. I use a hand tool called a dike that is used by carpenters for cutting off nails. Nice clean cut.

U CAN ALSO USE A DREMEL TOOL WITH THE CUTTING WHEEL

8" nippers or Manley pliers are just fine. The hooks will rust faster than when used with split rings but i haven't heard any weakness or opening.

I use a small Sandvik hacksaw with a thin blade. It is like a hobby saw, but better. Goes through like butter, even when cutting VMCs. Works well on smaller hooks. To avoid corrosion I place a drop of clear nail polish in the gap after I squeeze it shut.
