BigFish 05-11-2007, 07:13 PM Happens here too Matt on occasion! Found one yesterday! Must have gotten in when I put the door screens in but sometimes I find them 6-8 at a time!:behead:
Biteme 05-11-2007, 07:18 PM Get a pro :wavey: The only way to solve the problem is to eliminate the nest, and that could be anywhere. If your seeing them in the house at this time of year, chances are there nesting in the house. Check attic perimeters and along basement sills. it can be as easy as the ants living above the vapor barrier of the insulation. Take a walk around the exterior this weekend when it's warm and try to follow them into the house and you'll have any idea of what side to concentrate on. BTW baits don't generally work, but you could try Terro. It has worked for us.
justplugit 05-11-2007, 07:56 PM Matt, if they're carpenter ants they will be around damp wood. If you see any sawdust it's prolly them.
They work at night, and drop the sawdust a good distance from the nest. Go out at night with a flashlight and you'll see them dropping the sawdust in a single file line.
Follow them back with the light to see where they have their nest.
Then like Biteman said.
Squid kids Dad 05-11-2007, 08:02 PM Matt..I have had the same problem for a couple of years..Went to the hardware store on rt27 in Hanson..They recommened the bait traps that have arsenic in them,,,No problem at all...put them out every spring..Of course if you have young kids or pets it might pose a danger to them..but it kills the fresking ants
hooked 05-11-2007, 09:26 PM Pic worked for me. Let them take as much as they want back to the nest. For every one you see, there's probably a hundred you don't.
gone fishin 05-11-2007, 09:53 PM Don't screw with them - hire a guy to rid your house of them. I hired a guy and it turned out to be the best c note I spent. After he got through there wasn't a crawler to be found for a year. I now have him treat the house every year.
Raven 05-12-2007, 05:02 AM with ants.... you have to be real clever...
because they are smart bugs... and the professionals ...even with all of
their sprays sometimes miss the main nest... like here for example ....the spray guy comes and afterwards......... i had more ants...:wall:
somewhere on your place....there is wet wood... it's generally on the north side of the house where the sun doesnt dry it sufficiently.
i found a spot where the carpenters had doubled up a some floor joists
underneath the deck... and to look at it... not much signs of ants...
inside or between those two [always damp] floor joists there was a huge colony with a thousand baby ants being created.
JohnR 05-12-2007, 06:02 AM I bought some of that Amdro Ant Block, spread it around the foundation like the directions said (read twice for safety reasons). The stuff works great - no ants
UserRemoved1 05-12-2007, 06:14 AM The goopy stuff that you squirt out works pisser too. I had a colony last year and they take gobs of the stuff back to the nest and eat it. Done givem a little tummy ache :D
Swimmer 05-12-2007, 11:16 AM I had to have Terminex come a few months ago. Had a terrible time. I signed up for three summertime visits as a follow-up. After the initial visit from the tech or whatever you call the kid no more ants. I popped some trim from the wall in the general area that I figured they came in from and he sprayed some green stuff in between the studs and the ants started dropping like rats. Replaced the bulkhead to further take care of my end.
Biteme 05-12-2007, 11:19 AM Don't ever call Terminex! Try to get a referral and find a local company.
Slingah 05-12-2007, 01:41 PM thanks all...great suggestions,,
I sprayed for the last two day...and no more ants...cept a few lazy half dead ones....
I am trying to find a nest and entry area but am coming up short...sooo.....hoping there is no nest....
if it keeps happening I'll call a local pro....and not a chain...
thanks again....
death to all ants:devil2: :devil2: :devil2:

I agree. I've done this in the past. Works great & it's safe.
Rick Ackley 05-19-2007, 08:08 AM I've used Terro before in the camp trailer. Ants were trying to even get inside the bottle they like it so much.
terro terro terro.. that stuff rocks. We get ants every spring and this year upon the first sight of them, we put out some terro and they were gone in 2 days. then a week later a few more would show up and we laid out more terro... i presume this was the 1st ant's kids.. anyway, after 2 sessions with the stuff, they havent been seen agian...
