at my house my cable internet hook up is in the lower level of the house and we're in the midst of gutting the level to paint and lay tile floors...

my question is the Mrs. needs my desktop computer to access the internet for work and she cant get online since we moved the computer upstairs..

is there a cheap wireless card you can get for a desktop?? I have a wireless modem for my laptop, so we can get an excellent signal anywhere in the house.

You should be able to pick up a Wireless card for a desktop for around $40 at staples or Comp USA. something like a netgear should work fine

Do you have cable going to your TV digital box ?

If yes then you can attach a 1:2 splitter.
1) Remove the cable going to the TV box
2) Attach cable to the splitter input. Note that the splittter will have two outputs.
3) attach a cable from the output of splitter to TV box.
4) attach another cable to the modem as you had configured down stairs.
5) done

or

If you have cable going to any unsed wall outlet in the house then attach the modem.

Since your remodeling it may be a good time to install those extra cables.

Have been using belkin 54g wireless for a couple of years now. you'll need a router on the main and a card for the remote both run about $50. Belkin has internal and external cards. think they have a range of a 1000'.
