Hey there. New to S-B here but wanted to report a decent night of fishing. Headed out of Scituate last night in the rain (miserable) at about 6 PM. Figures it's been beautiful every evening all week and last night was my only chance to get out all week. We loaded up with fresh herring and some eels and headed on up to the Minot Light area. We've got a few favorite spots around the rocks. We started out chumming and chunking the herring, then at dusk, started slinging the eels along with the chunks (working the eels and rods with chunks in the rod holders). Well, it started off slow but things really heated up around 2 hours after the slack tide. My buddy hooked into a 28"er. Then I immediately got into a 37" fish. They were followed by a 36" and a 34". All fairly heavy fish. This went on for a while with about a dozen bass total all the way up to 39". Things slacked off about 10:30 or so and we decided to pack it in and head home happy with our night out. Took pics of the fish but released all!
Going to be headed down for some Bonita this weekend ( Sat or Sun not sure which day yet). Heard they're showing up now so we'll give that a shot. I'll be reporting back with future catches.

I'll try to get them posted soon. No secret spots. All the rocks between Minot Light and Strawberry Point payoff pretty well. We were on top of Callamore Ledge.

BigBo - welcome to S-B but shhh on the spots already :D - I don't want people getting too close to my shore spots (little disinformation :D )

No problem. Just glad to share a little info with fellow fishermen. That ledge is over a mile offshore anyways. But I hear ya! I do have some of my own secret spots that I usually don't divulge as well. I like the S-B boards. Great source of info!

You guys are too funny.

I went out last night to a secret spot that was divulged to me but things didn't work out, very windy with fairly rough seas. To compound the problems the anchor got stuck and was unretrievable.:af: Tried drifting for a while but the wind was too much. Tried hiding behind Peddocks but still couldn't escape the wind. Finally retreated to the Back River with one schoolie being caught by my buddy.

A little late downloading the pics from last Friday night, but here is a 38" bass that I took. As you can see, I'm a sizable guy. This fish weighed in at close to 30lbs.

BigBo - Did you get a chance to weigh it? Unfortunately, pictures at night can be deceiving but I can see that fish going into the low 20 pounds, maybe 23 pounds. I've had bass at 43 inches go only 23 pounds before... The smallest fish on length I've caught over 30 pounds was 44 inches. And my biggest 38 inch bass with broad shoulders was about 24 pounds... Courtesy of my Berkely Digital Scale....

Yeh, and I know about the sizeable guy thing (well, I'm not fat, I'm big boned as Cartman would say) :D :smash:

That's what I keep trying to tell my wife! I did weigh it. It was actually a lot heavier than it looks. This fish weighed in at just a hair over 29lbs! NICE!:D

BigBo,

Very nice fish and I don’t mean to take the wind out of your sails…
But, you better have that scale checked.
.
Having been in the seafood business for many years, I’ve handled more 37-38 inch Stripers on certified scales, than I can count and I have to agree with John on this one.
19 pounds I’m buying. 29 pounds? Sorry, no sale.
A real fat, healthy, late October fish of that length, that has gorged itself on Pogies and Macks all summer might weigh in at 23-24 pounds… tops, with a real full belly.

Again, in no way do I mean to diminish your fish, or question your veracity.
I just think you might have mistaken a one for a two in the excitement, or your scale is screwed up.

Here are a couple of 43"-44" fish that went 27, and 28lbs. My wife caught a 38" that was fat and it went 20lbs, maybe the scale was off. It still is a very nice fish.

sorry i missed you van. i ended up getting a real late start. one of my house guests didn't arrive until 2:00pm then we went down to the boat. i cruised by the brewsters and didn't see you. i called out on the radio but didn't get any response not sure if iut was working right. we got into to a few BIG bluefish out in 75ft of water just off a ledge. 5 screamers and 2 fish boated. not a great ratio but they still had fun.

I turned the radio off by mid-day.

We also got some blues and only a coule of small bass.
BUT I went out yesterday and did real well.

Look for my post later.
