Make sure all your safety gear is in order.
Get a radar reflector.
Leave your handheld vhf on IN the house for a few hours to make sure the battery isn't on its way out.
If you have an EPIRB, test it, or have it tested.
Doublecheck all those lifejackets to make sure they're all clean and intact.
Make sure your GPS is happy and working and giving you good info.

If you're unsure of yourself, take a boating class and go out with more seasoned friends.

9/16/22 are busy enough these days. Don't need more accidents waiting to happen.

Life Raft & Survival Equipment, Portsmouth RI is the place to go if any safety equipment needs to be replaced. (I'm not affiliated but most people I know use and trust them with their lives.)

great company to do business with.

For life rafts they're unparalleled.
They'll go over EVERYTHING they did to the raft with you... testing/anything that needed to be replaced/advice etc.

Making sure your GPS is good is fine but nothing replaces knowing how to use your compass, clock and a chart. Once in a while think OK if I lost my GPS how would I get back with poor visibility. his information may be only important once but ...........
